"Is this room 108?"
I swallowed and nodded my head unsure of where this was going. The tall figure opened the door and walked in giving me a full view of his tall lean figure. He was about 6'2; and light skinned with dark brown hair. Nothing was really special about him except for his beautiful grey eyes. They seemed to hypnotize me in a trance that I couldn't break away from. A throat cleared and we both jumped with realization of my mother still there in our presence. The atmosphere was instantly filled with awkward vibes after the encounter.
"Young man, are you telling me that this is your dorm and that you're Jordan Green?"
"Yes ma'am that's what it said on my letter. Don't worry; I'm sure I can get this straightened out with the dean."
"My Aaliyah cannot share a room with no hotheaded damn boy!" I groaned with embarrassment.
He anxiously rubbed his hand across the back of his neck, clearly allowing me to see his lean body through his tank. My area soon became heated sending chills down my spine. What the hell is wrong with me? I thought trying to kill my feelings for this boy. I was here to learn, not fall in love.

My mom left later that day reluctantly, she wasn't really feeling the thought of Jordan and I would be sharing a room for the night. My mom was very strict with boys. I haven't had my first kiss, gone on my first date, or even lost my v-card. I missed out on all of those things because of school. School was made to be first above everything else because my mother didn't want me to end up like her, at a dead end job living paycheck to paycheck in the hood with no direction. She wanted me to fulfill my dreams. At times it did get lonely because I didn't have friends but it'll all pay off in the end.

"So why are you sitting all alone?" I looked up to see an Asian girl setting her lunch tray in front of me. I shrugged my shoulders and continued eating. Moving my food aimlessly around with my fork not even paying attention to the fact that she was having a full conversation with me."H-E-L-L-O? Earth to the new black chick with pretty hair." I giggled slightly and looked up.
"As I was saying, where are you from?" I frowned slightly. Why is this girl talking to me? I'm a nobody, a loner.
"I'm from Staten Island, New York." Her eyes grew big as saucers.
"YOU'RE FROM THE BIG APPLE!"
I shrunk in my seat as people began to look over at our table. I hate any kind of attention. I guess you could say if it was possible to blend into the walls I would do so.
"Well who the fuck do we have here?"
I looked up into a face full of makeup, I'm talking caked on with false eyelashes looking like she was preparing to fly away. Her red lipstick was bright as hell and her red hair made her look like Ronald McDonald's cousin. I chuckled and looked her up and down. One thing about me is, I may be quiet and to myself but you don't fuck with me.
"Do I look amused to you?" She said snobbily. I burst out laughing until tears started to flow from my eyes.
"Do it look like I give two rats asses?"
The lunch room became hushed with silence. I looked around and saw every eye watching our encounter. Two girls who looked like the Ronald McDonald's cousins walked up with their arms crossed like they were about to do something. I stood up and walked up to Ronald's face and I looked right into her eyes.
"Problem Ronald?"
Confusion swept across her face until the whole lunch room burst into laughter. Her yellow bone cheeks begin to flame with embarrassment. She stormed away with her crew trailing right behind her. I sat back down in my seat and the mystery Asian chick replied unenthusiastically,
"Welcome to Bradley Boarding School,"***
