"Emily, why are you still here?" Jean demanded, almost ignoring my presence altogether.
Emily rolled her eyes before looking at me. "Lyra, this is Jean. My brother." Jean glanced at me. "We've met before." I smiled a little but I didn't feel like it was safe enough to talk.
Jean sighed and said, "Emily, we've talked about this. I told you, you have to practice-!" "My mannerisms, yada yada, yeah, I know. I got a little sidetracked." "Sidetracked how?" he demanded.
Before she could respond, I stood up and faced him. "I'm sorry, it was my fault. She said she had to go but I just... I needed someone to talk to."
Jean raised an eyebrow and sighed. "The brothers. Where are they?"
I rubbed my arm and said, "I... Honestly, I don't know." He shook his head before glancing at Emily. "You have ten minutes." She grumbled but didn't refute. Jean then turned and walked away without another word. Emily playfully glared at me and asked, "Did you just lie for me?"
I smiled sheepishly. "Maybe?" Emily giggled before saying, "You know, Lyra? You're alright with me. Seriously though, lie for me again and I'll toss you in mud."
I laughed and exclaimed, "You wouldn't dare!" She snorted and said, "Try me, girl!"
She patted my head gently and said, "I don't know how you found your way to Michelle and Charlie, but the best idea right now is to just go home and rest. You seem like you need it." I smiled a little and nodded. "Yeah, you're probably right."
She smiled and said, "See you around, chica." With a small wave she took off in a small jog, humming as she did so.
My smile faded soon after she left. I wasn't quite ready to face the boys after they spat in each other's face, as well as mine unintentionally.

My feet dragged me towards their house as I played with my shirt. I had spent the past few hours trying my best to avoid their house, but eventually, the sun started lowering, shining through the trees as the sky turned several different shades of red, blue, and purple.
Children had started going inside their homes and the elders I came across advised me to go inside for the day.
A heavy gust of wind blew up against my back, causing me to shiver and walk faster. Eventually the house was in my sights and my footsteps slowed. The lights were on, implying that they were definitely home.
I exhaled and made myself closer, only to pause and stop moving. Someone was inside aside from the brothers, and it seemed as if the conversation was heated. I bit my lip before deciding to get closer.
The brothers were arguing with Garry, so it seemed.
"If you two, oh I don't know, stopped for a second and realized you both are connected to her, you'd realize that you're hurting her. This is different from sharing the other 'toys' you played with. She's the real deal, damn it!"
