Prologue

A loud series of coughs could be heard as their surroundings went dim. The dark smoke was already engulfing around them as fierce flames shrouded the wooden walls.

"Celestina!"

The dark-haired alpha called out as she held out her arm infront of her face to shield her from the heat of the fire. She looked around desperately. She and her mate had been separated after the humans had made their attack.

She couldn't even track her lover from how thick the smoke was. Those damn creatures! Her wolf growled as she tried walking through the dark. She called out once again.

"Celestina! Where are you?!"

After a few minutes, she could hear a faint cough away from her left side. She turned to where she heard it and worked her way through. She called out once again. "Lesti!!"

"Ha...ve..n."

Her heart sped up faster as she turned to were the sound was again and ran. It took her just a couple of minutes to finally find her one and only. Her eyes widened once she saw the scene infront of her.

Celestina was helplessly trapped under a chunk of the wooden ceiling.

She quickly went to her side and pulled out the debris that fell on top of her mate. Once she got it out, her heart skipped a beat as she saw the blood pooling around her lover. A feeling of dread followed her every being as she kneeled next to her.

"Hey, baby. I'm here. I'm here. I'm going to get you out of here, okay? Just hold on tight."

Haven gently picked her up bridal-style and quickly escaped the burning building. She ran as quickly and fast as her legs could take. She had long legs so what good would be it be if she were not to use it?

She glanced to look at her lover. Oh god, did she look almost as pale as snow. The worried alpha leaned in and nuzzled her mate lightly and watched as she weakly opened her eyes. Her hazel eyes were slowly turning dull, contrast to the ones that were so full of life and and twinkling in excitement. Her heart felt like it was being gripped so hard.

Once she saw the person she was looking for, her loud voice call out to them. "Call the village medic! QUICK!" The other pack members quickly left.

"Crap! What the heck happened, Haven?!"

My best friend, Althea, exclaimed as she rushed with her as she quickly found a small hut and placed the bleeding girl on the bed.

"We were under attack! The humans, they- I-I didn't expect that they would do this! They planned a surprised attack!" The alpha breathed quickly as she paced around the room like a madwoman.

"Where the hell is the damn doctor?!"

Althea tried to calm her best friend down as she was beside the groaning woman on the bed. "Stop circling around like a paranoid idiot and calm down! Come here and reassure your wife!"

Haven then obeyed as she practically ran towards Celestina and crouched beside her. "You're gonna be okay, baby. You'll be fine, okay?"

Suddenly, her mate's eyes were rimmed with tears. A tear slipped waywardly down the cheek of her wife and Haven wiped it away with her thumb.

The alpha caressed her hair softly and whispered sweet things to her wife, telling her that everything was going to be okay, that she was going to be fine, and that she would go and beg the moon goddess to give them a way to have a child-their very own child by their blood just like how her mate really wanted to.

The doctor arrive no more that a few minutes later and let out the alpha and her friend as she began to work her healing "magic".

Haven bit the tips of her fingers as she paced back and forth outside the hut, worried plastered across her usually carefree and happy face. She was growing restless and frustrated the more she was overthinking.

It took a little longer than expected when the village doctor slowly went out of the hut, her face holding a pitied expression. The alpha turned to the healer and asked desperation clear in her voice but all she got as a reply was

'I'm sorry.'

Everything went blank from there, like her conciousness shut down and was replaced by a broken and empty shell. She vaguely remembered herself screaming, breaking the things that could be broken. Then the next, she sees herself being embraced by her best friend as she cried, stopping her from doing anything else.

The one she truely remembers though, was that she swore that she would never let any human or creature that may threaten her friends, her pack, and most importantly, never let anyone in her heart ever again.
