Chapter One: Morning Detention

Her eyes fluttered open slowly as she yawned she lifted up her hand to cover her mouth. She looked up at the wooden ceiling, it was as if she were upside down, although she wasn’t.

She grunted before sitting up and checking the time.

It read, eight thirty-seven. Remembering she had to go to detention soon. A bording school wasn’t the best, it's ways were like any Other school. Only students had to live on the school premises, put up with the people you don’t like and move on doing the best you could. The things she did enjoy were being with her friends. As typical student would, and then there was walking past her crush, who rarely spoke to her.

She forced a smile to herself about the positive things in life. Getting out of bed, she went into the bathroom, turned the tap on and cupped her hands under running cold water, hanging her face over the sink to splash the water on it.

As she would every morning to revive herself.

After that she undressed, selecting blue denim jeans and a blue tank top, she slipped into the chosen outfit, then stared at herself in the mirror, observing her features. "Errgh! I look so ugly in the morning." She complained, although no one could hear her.

She walked out, taking a seat on the end of her bed, taking out a pair of simple black shoes from under her bed and put them on, she had always prefered shoes that didn't have laces or straps.

She sighed. Ever since her parents passed away and she'd been tooken into care by her aunt, that just threw her off to a boarding school, paid her fees and left.

She rose from her seat and grabbed a jacket from the cupboard, a warm woolly jumper. She then quickly brushed her long blonde hair and put it up in a pony tail, this style being her most favoured.

Afterwards she departed from her dorm room and shut and locked the door. Tucking her cold hands into her jumper pockets and walked down the hallway heading to where she was required for detention with three other students who also had to serve a detention.

Already three minutes late she began jogging down the hallway. She exited the long corridor and turned to exit outside, she went to the gates where the other three students were awaiting her.

"Paris! Where the hell have you been we've been waiting on you?" A short black headed girl snapped, she went by the name Jazz.

one of Paris’s two very best friends. "I'm sorry Jazz, my alarm didn’t go off and I slept in." She explained.

Giving her friend an innocent smile, noticing her crush Izac was a short distance away from them, his hands in his jean pockets, looking around with a tedious expression. "Alright, are we all here?" Called the history teacher, Mrs Davis.

"Yes!" Came the students replies, Mrs Davis gave a brief nod at all their heads, counting them. Shortly after she opened the rusty gates behind her and went through them after each student had passed. The cement path was cracked and uneven, giving the impression it had been there for decades. Bunches of thick trees lined the old path, making it seem like venturing into an old forest.

They travelled down the path, when they came to the end of the walk, they crossed to another leading them to a worn out aged cemetery.

Paris took in the surroundings, Gazing at the broken down old tomb stones, she looked at Mrs Davis as the teacher started speaking. "You three will be taking rags and a bucket each and cleaning as many tombstones as you can during the detention." She announced, pointing a thin index finger to buckets that had been placed out early this morning for them, they were already filled and had cloths ready to go.
