Chapter 3: Discovering Me

I woke up with a killer headache.

What happened?  I don't remember anything. All i remember is talking with Peter and then blackness.

"Katie!!"  I heard Peter yell softly.

"Peter!?! What the hell happened?! I blacked out and don't remember anything. "

"We were attacked... I'm jut so relived your alive. Look. What I was trying to say before was you were born into a special family, with powers. People that kind of mess around with magic and stuff like that. Your real family was killed by people like this and they left you to live. Katie, your not like your parents, your different, your normal. Thats why we are letting you go home."

I was too shocked to say anything. I'd never really done anything really 'magical' with my life so I mean, it makes sense... Maybe I am just normal. 

Maybe I didn't want to go home, maybe I wanted to be like my parents.

"What do we do??" I say as calm as possible, trying to absorb all of this information. 

" We wait....we wait to wake up....WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP KATIE!!!"  The voice had changed slightly and got louder. I jolted up to sitting position. 

Had I been sleeping?

"Great your awake. We have to get out of here.. I'll explain more later..." Melissa said, pulling me up to my feet.  

"I heard some stuff when I was passed out.. It sounded like Peter." i say rubbing my pounding head. 

"Melissa grab her now.. We have to get to the training arena and show her today." I heard Peter say, moving swiftly from where he was standing. 

"Sorry 'bout this Katie" she said, doing something to me making me blind, "Don't worry, it's only temperary." 

After a few minutes of complete silence I decided to try to talk.. it took a while for me to get it right and get a reply though.

"Peter??"  I 'say' without opening my mouth.

"Yea??" he answered right away. 

"Can Melissa hear us right now?" I ask, hoping she didn't hear that.

"No.. Not unless you want her to.." 

"Ok, good. Peter.. They told me something about me and my family.. They said the car accident wasn't an accident and that my parents were like you guys and I wasn't and that I'm normal.. " I say, hoping to get an answer on weather it's true or not.

"Katie..." he sighs, "Part of it is true... Your parents death was no accident. But you are the opposite of normal. Katie you have more magic and power in you than both of your parents combined. That night in the car they felt they didn't need to kill you so they didn't, they thought they'd let you suffer without a family... How much do you remember about your family Katie?" 

I was silent at first... "Not much I suppose.. Why?" 

"They whipped your memory.. they got rid of any memory of you and your sister because she was like you parents, just a normal one... They kidnapped her and tortured her for years and years.. Until she escaped. And I found her." He stopped. 

I was speechless. I have a sister? She's alive? What?! 

"Katie... Melissa is your sister.." Those words hit me like a knife... 

I was silent. I didn't know how to reply... "Are you..??" I say hoping he'll get what I'm trying to say. 

"No no... I'm just a stranger. No relations. Well... I mean theres the proficy.. but that doesn't matter. Melissa is your sister and I saved her years ago when your parents were killed. We were kidnapped at the same time and we escaped together. I couldn't find you. I looked for years and years until we assumed you were dead. And she only looked so old because she hasn't fed in a while. We eat people souls to keep us healthy and strong and of course, looking young. And that why we didn't sense you in the store was because your one of us. We cant kill our own. " He says, filling my head with all of this knowledge that I'm having a hard time understanding and processing all so fast. 

I didn't have words. 

"Peter... Whats the proficy? And what does it have to do with me?" I ask as the curiosity gets the best of me, even though I'm afraid of the answer I'm going to get.

He gives me a long and deep sigh, "Every few years, there is to be 4 marked ones... Two from the same family and the other two from different families. The one's from different families are, well basically soul mates. And after fighting off the few years of 'killers', they are free and don't have to worry anymore until the next generation is born and by then, a different generation takes over to fight. But the 'soul mates' are supposed to fall in love and their powers will combine in their child to make, well one of you" 

I still didn't know what to say. I was speechless. 

What if it's me? What if it's Melissa? Who's the fourth person?

"Alright. We're here" Melissa says, putting me down and taking the blinding spell off of me.

I look around " there.... theres nothing here?" I say, scared and confused. The only thing in sight for miles, was a giant bolder. 

"Yes there is. You just haven't seen it yet." She says looking at me with a devilish look.

Her and Peter both get into a running position. They ran at incredible speeds around the boulder until the ground starts to sink in. 

"Hurry Katie! Before the door closes!" Peter yelled to me just standing watching in amazement.

I just kind of stood there terrified... "What if i don't make it!?" I yelled to Peter still running in circles trying to keep the vortex of a door open. 

Peter gave Melissa a look and he jumped to me and picked me up in the bridal way, and jumped back into the vortex. I screamed and covered my face. And when I opened my eyes, we were already there. Wherever that was anyway...
