I was miserable in this gloomy cruel prison, I mean orphanage. People whispered and sniggered when I was in the room and even all the orphanage workers hated me. I hung my head and said nothing, trying to hide all my sadness and anger. One day I had a sudden burst of courage and put a stop to the whispering. "Stop it!" I yelled, "If you have a problem with me say it to my face!" Everyone stared. After that no-one said anything, but the silence was nearly worse than the whispering and sniggering. I cried myself to sleep every night, praying that I would be rescued. I had no hope of anyone coming for me because nobody loved me except the cook, but the cook had no idea where I was. We only got visitors on Sundays. It was heartbreaking knowing I would never have any visitors, no matter how much I wished. One night I went to bed just as normal when I heard tapping on the window. I ignored it for the fist few minutes but the tapping continued and got louder. I slipped out of bed and opened the creaky window.
