The journey to the police station was silent, the three teens smushed into the back of the car.
Jonathan kept his gaze on Samantha, who was holding a tissue up to her nose to try and stop the bleeding. He had hit her pretty hard.
She didn't care about her nose though. No, she was more concerned about the fact that Jonathan had gotten hurt and feeling his eyes on her, she turned and gave him a weak smile.
This was not how their plan was supposed to go down.
At the station, Jonathan was taken away for a brief five minutes while Nancy stayed outside. She said she had needed some time to process what had just happened.
Her cousin meanwhile, she went in search of some ice for Jonathan, asking each of the officers with no reply until she asked Flo. The kind woman at the front desk.
"Hey," she said as the woman got some ice from the freezer, "Are we going to be out of here anytime soon?"
"You? Yes. Him? No." Flo muttered, dumping the ice onto a tea towel, "He assaulted a police officer."
"Well how long are you going to keep him here?" Samantha demanded.
"You and your boyfriend have big plans, do you?" the older woman asked, a knowing smirk on her face.
Samantha flushed red, said nothing and took the ice from her, a small smile on her face as she returned to Jonathan.
"I got some ice," she murmured, taking a seat beside him but he didn't look at her.
He was still gutted that she had gotten caught up in that whole altercation.
"Jonathan," she whispered, touching his hand gently, "What happened, that wasn't your fault."
"You got hurt," he said, looking at the dried blood that was now under her nostrils.
"Yeah, but you didn't hit me. It was an accident. Now come here and let me put this on your face."
He shuffled closer to her, hissing slightly as the cool towel came in contact with his skin.
Samantha thought about what Flo said, looking over at the woman to see her looking with a knowing expression on her face and when she caught the blonde looking, she nodded.
"Are you okay?" she heard Jonathan ask quietly, tearing her gaze from Flo, to look at him.
"Yeah," she whispered, leaning in closer, "I'm great."
His eyes flitted from hers to her lips and he leant in closer.
Joyce chose that moment to burst through the little gate, closely followed by Hopper and they sat up, preparing for a rollicking.
God dammit.
"Why is he wearing handcuffs?" Joyce demanded, "Take them off!"
"He assaulted a police officer."
"Take them off!"
"You heard her," hopper said quietly, "Take 'em off."
"Look," another officer said from behind the teens, "I get that everyone is a little emotional right now but chief, there's something you need to see."
Samantha's eyes widened as the three officers left the building, looking at Jonathan, who was staring at his mom and she nudged him, "Your car."
