My heart raced as they began coming closer. There I was standing alone in the mall. Hyunwoo excused himself when he saw my mother and sister on the way, and now here I was wishing I never came. I slowly walked toward her and before I knew it, there was only a small space left between us to where another person could stand.

"Mother how have you-," I managed to say before the unexpected occurred. There in front of thousands of people, some who probably knew who I was, witnessed the scene as my mother smeared a slap across my face. I stood up straight and massaged my jawline as I took a step back.

"How dare you. How very dare you!" she hollered grabbing some attention from passersbys, "Did I raise you to run away? I'm pretty sure I didn't, because if I did I'm certain you wouldn't be alive right now!"

"I'm better then alive right now. In fact, I've never been happier," I proclaimed to her, trying to show my strength to her to match my strong outfit. Then and there again, another slap almost smeared my face, but thankfully stepped back, causing her to lightly fall in the air.

"Attitude. Where did you get this attitude from? What, have you become a thug? Huh! Answer me!" she yelled as she began to grab my hair. I pulled my hair away, not a single tear forming in my eye.

"Let go," I whisper hissed as I felt her grab suddenly loosen, "You know what I learned from those thugs I've been hanging out with recently?

"W-what?" her eyes eyeing me as she tilted her head, preparing for what I had coming at her.

"That whatever goes around, comes around," I smirked as I took a small step forward, "I think you can guess what just came around me now, right?"

"You little," she murmured as she raised her when suddenly I saw it lift.

"Is this how you reunite with your daughter?" Hyunwoo exclaimed as he pulled me to his side and away from mother.

"And who are you?" mother said as her voice became guile. Her eyes narrowed at Hyunwoo before looking down on the floor when Hyunwoo pulled out his police ID.

"Your daughter seems to be an adult who can take of herself. I'll use this time to say that she'll be living on her own now. If you want to meet with her, please contact us," Hyunwoo said as he handed over his business card to mother. He then signaled me to follow him as we left the mall.

Few minutes later, we were sitting in his Audi as awkward silence filled the air.

I hate myself. Why did he have to see that side of me? Why did my mom have to be her?

Suddenly, my tears began to wipe themselves, or so I thought. Hyunwoo carefully wiped my tears as I sniffed in and took the tissue away from him.

"Jisoo," he said softly, almost too soft, "do you have to go to work now," I slightly shook my head in disagreement.

"Well, I happen to be off duty too, so," he began as he put the keys in the car and began driving, "what do you say we use this day to have some fun."

My eyes widened as I slowly turned to look at him. Was I hearing things right? Did he just ask me out on a date? Is it not illegal?

"I, uh," I hesitated.

"It's not a date," he cleared himself, "I'm just saying let me help you relieve some of your stress."

I nodded my head as he began to drive down the highway in speed. He lifted the roof of his Audi as the wind began to blow in my face. The evening sun glowed in my face as my fingers dangled out the window. Free. I suddenly felt free.
