Death's Lullaby

Chapter 31

It took Time exactly three hours to summon the other Powers to his castle. Love and Life appeared in his castle and looked at the two Deaths. The light Powers scrunched their noses upon seeing Ash. Ash sunk his head and looked away from them. When they saw Death on the other hand both seemed happy to see the original Power.

"Welcome back Death," Life stated. Love hugged Death and kissed him on the cheek.

"It's good to have you back," Love said.

"Don't get use to me being up here. I'm not staying very long," Death responded. Love and Life looked at him confusedly and then looked at Time for an explanation.

"Boys, show them the Mark," Time ordered. Both Powers stretched out their left wrists and exposed the Mark so the other Powers could see it. Life examined it and Love seemed afraid of it.

"How did you two receive that Mark?" Love asked in a scared tone.

"Devil put it on us when he took our Powers from us," Ash explained.

"Time, is there anyway to get that off of them?" Life asked. Time shook his head and rubbed his face.

"No, I'm afraid not," Time answered.

"So why did you call us here then?" Life asked. Time looked at Death and Ash and nodded at them.

"They will explain," Time stated. All of the Light Powers looked at the two boys. Death sighed and began to tell them their plan.

"Devil has to pay for what he has done, and not just for what he did to us, but to all the Powers. We can't do anything though because the Marks are drawn upside down," Death started.

"Which means if we try to hurt Devil then the Marks will hurt us and we could die from our attempts," Ash finished.

"Then why did we need to be here?" Life spat. Death's devious smile made Life almost take back his words.

"Life, how many Dark Powers are there?" Death asked with a Cheshire cat-like grin.
"Counting you there's three," Life responded.

"How many Light Powers are there?" Ash asked this time.

"Four," Love answered.

Four to three. Dark Powers are outnumbered by one, but for this occasion it's one to six. Devil's outnumbered," Death stated.

"You two can't harm him though, and who says we're going to help you out?" Life stated.

"We can be the distractions though, and if you weren't in then you wouldn't have showed up," Death retorted. Life went to speak but he shut his mouth quickly. Death grinned and directed his attention to Love.

"So have you gotten better with your bow?" Death asked. Love snorted and looked at Death.

"Yea, would you like a demonstration?" Love said.

"No, but you are going to be a great addition to the plan,"

"What exactly is this plan?" Life asked.

"Say that Devil is booted off his throne. He would get replaced right?" Ash asked. The Light Powers nodded in response.

"Then that's what we have to do," Death said.

"You plan on booting Devil off his throne? Do you know how difficult that's going to be?" Life exasperated.

"Oh Life, we're not just booting him off the throne, we're going to kill him," Death said. All three Light Powers looked at Death in fear. Booting the strongest Power off his throne was one thing, but killing another Power was a completely different game.
