The sound of my footsteps resonated throughout the house. Each step roared louder than the previous one.

Each step led me closer to Cary's demise.

Before long, I found myself at the front of a door with a sign that read 'Cary's Room' in large, red letters.

She was in there. I knew because I could feel her presence, the same presence that reminded me of her mother.

Whenever I looked into Cary's baby blue eyes, I saw her face and that made me want to kill my little sister even more. I couldn't stand anything that reminded me of my mother and the mistake I made ten years ago. That is why I smashed every mirror I encountered.

My hand reached for the doorknob and turned it with immense force. I let out a groan when I realized that the door was locked.

It looked like I had to do things the hard way.

I closed my eyes and whispered "Apparet malleo." A grin appeared on my face as a hammer materialized in front of my eyes.

The solid material slowly made its way into my open hand. I let my finger brush against the metal surface, feeling the new object. It's been a while since I've held a weapon other than a knife.

I thought about Cary and my mother and then smashed the object against the door. My lips formed a smile as I admired the enormous hole that was created. I looked through it and scanned the room for my sister.

"Peek-a-boo," I whispered loud enough for her to hear. Next, I raised my weapon once more and smashed it against the door. I repeated this action numerous times until the hole in the door was wide enough for me to pass through.

Upon entering the room, I looked around. The walls were painted a light blue color and the wooden floor was decorated with toys and crayons. The room was filled with books and dolls, but no sign of Cary.

"Cary? You can come out. I know you're in here!" I yelled, hoping to get at least a slight movement that would allow me to find the girl's hiding place.

"Okay fine, I give up. Can you come out and give your brother a hug?" I picked up a white teddy bear from the floor to reveal my surrender, and then spread my arms apart.

"Please?"

Cary must have heard my final plea because as soon as I stopped talking, she poked her head out from under the bed and softly asked, "Jay, is that you?"

I slowly nodded my head. The little girl then crawled from under the bed and jumped into my open arms.

"I missed you so much! I knew you would come for me! No one else did...not even dad." As she spoke I almost felt sadness crawl into my heart.

Almost.

Clearly, she was very lonely. Her mother died when she was only three years old and now her own father abandoned her.

The same father who was willing to torture his own son and throw him in a prison in Hell just to keep his daughter safe.

" Cary, what happened while I was away?" I asked her, trying to sound as gentle as I possibly could.

"After you..a-after mom left, dad took me to this house. He said it would keep me safe and it did. I think daddy did something to it because it won't let me leave. Daddy stayed with me here for a while, but then one day, he said he had work to do. I never saw him after that day. He just...left." As she said those words, tears were streaming down her face. I watched as they slowly dripped on the ground.

"And when was that day, sis?" I asked her. Honestly, I was very curious as to what happened. It's been a while since I had contact with one of my siblings.

"October 25, 2016," she whispered. Suddenly, realization washed over my face.

That was the same day I escaped from prison, and that could only mean one thing...he was looking for me too.

"Do you promise that you'll get me out of here, Jay?"

I looked up from the floor and glanced into my sister's beautiful eyes. "I promise" I spoke and placed her on her bed. She smiled and gave me another hug, this time whispering in my ear, "I love you, bro."

I said nothing as I stared into her eyes, allowing them to materialize in my mind.

Then, I closed my eyes and uttered a spell.

"Accipere virtutem."

Ample screams were heard after those words left my mouth.

I wanted to tell her that I was sorry, that I loved her too, but I didn't want to lie to her.

Because -- I didn't love her..

I wasn't sorry..

All that I was....was an abomination.

A monster.

And nothing more.
