That has been eleven years ago. I am now twelve and named Alisha Andies. Mother and Father found me in a wicker basket, they said. They said they were excited to finally have a child. But where did I come from? When I ask this, they become stone silent. Because of this, I can only dream of my true idenity. When I was five, I liked to pretend I was a princess, or a fairy, quite truly. Now that I'm twelve, I still think I can be royal, but I know it's possible I'm just everyday all around ordinary adopted girl. I just don't know who I am. I must have been thinking for a while on this topic, because Father popped his head in and questioned, "AlShaSha? You've been in here for hours! It's time for lunch!"
To this I respond,"Fodder! You're supposed to knock first!"
"Well, Shalia, your thinking is blocking out all sounds.
"So?"
"You can't hear the door."
"Oh. Let's get lunch!"
"It's served in a hour."
"I'll be in here!"
Father and I usually play with the names, so it's common. Mother joked we'll forget our true names if she wasn't here telling us all the time. I take a quick glance around my room. Same blue bed, same old wardrobe, same old stuffed animal, same old shelves, same old boy... wait, that can't be right. I turn around to look where he was. He wasn't there. Was he an illusion? I don't know. I notice a letter on my desk. Before I can pick it up, Father calls, "Shasito! Lunch!"
But lunch is the least of my worries right now.
