Chapter 1: First Day

I remember when I was younger I would go out in the woods to play with the wolves. I sometimes felt like I understood what they said.

They told me that they wanted to be human to see what it was like. I pretended to cast a spell on them:

"When the moon rises you will do my bidding by turning human."

I had to leave after because the sun was setting. The next day they were gone, nowhere to be found.

I was lonely with out them.

On my 16th birthday my parents got into a car crash and died, leaving me even more alone. At least my nurse maid, Lena, was still with me.

She started to take good care of me so I at least had someone.

Gem's POV

I get out of my car and feel horrible. It doesn't feel like the first day of junior year, more like the first day of a different school. My promised I made to Lena to make friends this year is fresh in my mind.

Maybe I can get back in my car and go home. Oh wait, Lena is at the house. If I go home before the day has started she will kill me. So I have two choices. 1. Go home and die or 2. Go along with the school day.

A sigh leaves my lips as I started walking towards the front door. "Hey, Gem, wait up."

I turn around and see a guy that was in a couple of my classes last year. I think of his name. Oh yeah it's David. "Hey David."

He catches up to me in a few seconds. Since he's taller then me, I have to look up a lot to talk to him. His crystal blue eyes make it worth it. A piece of his blonde hair hangs in his face. "We're in the same classes. Want to walk to class together?"

He smiled and I just couldn't say no, so I nodded. He linked his arm with mine, making me blush. "Aren't you glad to be friends?"

I nod and smile as we walk down the hall. David talks about something that happened during summer vacation but I started tuning out as I watch his emotions show on his face. We turn a corner then someone runs into me.

The person and me fall into a pile on the floor. When my eyes meet the persons eyes, I was starring into a green forest. His black bangs are brushing against my forehead. He opens his mouth a bit to say something but it doesn't make it out.

A blush appears on his cheeks as we stare at each other. After the long starring, he got off of me. He reaches his hand out to me. I take his hand and he helps me to my feet. He smile like a shy little kid making me smile a bit.

David wraps an arm around my waist as he watches the guy. Seeing them almost standing next to each other, the boy was a bit shorter. "Are you alright?"

When he spoke it caught me off. I nod slowly with a small smile. "Yeah, just peachy."

My legs shake a bit making me glad David had his arm around my waist. I lean against his strong body for support. A small blush appears on my cheeks. David has his arm around me and I'm leaning against him.

A vibration in David's chest brought me back to reality. "You should watch where your running."

The look on the boys face looked like it was full of fear. "Yes, I will next time."

I look up at David to see him starring the boy down. My gaze falls back on the boy as I frown sadly. "Whats your name?"

The boy gives me a little smile. "Oh. Sorry, I'm Austin. Whats yours?"

I smile a bit. "Gem."

Austin smiles a bit more. "Nice to meet you."

After a second his face shifts to scared before he gets behind us. I try to look at him behind us. "What's wrong?"

Austin holds on to the back of my shirt as he mumbles something. I frown a bit. "What?"

After a seconds Austin speaks up. "He's after me."

I looked at David confused. He just shrugs and rolls his eyes. My confusion deepens. Does he know what Austin is talking about? David's arm tightens around my waist as he tenses up.

Why is he tensed up? "Austin, come out come out where ever you are."

Someone down the hall could be heard walking slowly towards us. I shake a bit as I grab on to David's shirt a bit. Who ever that is sounds scary as hell. I can see why Austin was running and hiding.

A few second after we heard the voice we see a guy with red hair walking towards us. He got closer and closer before I could see his face. If I never heard or saw him before I would have thought he was kind.

His blue eyes reminded me of the beautiful sky. He seem to narrow his eyes at me. The closer he got I could tell he was as tall as Austin. As he stared at me a shiver ran down my spine making my body shiver.

He crosses his arms as he stands in front of us. "Can you hand over Austin?"

I stare at him a bit scared. "W..Why?"

He growls as he gets closer. "Do I need to give a reason to the likes of you."

I try to take a step back but David's arm was still wrapped around my waist. David's chest vibrates as he growls back at the guy. Austin seems to hold on to the back of my shirt tighter.

Foot steps approach from behind the red head. "Austin take Gem to her class and stay with her."

Austin grabs my hand and pulls me down the hall fast. I look back trying to see the other person but don't get a chance. We didn't go to my first class, instead we went in to an empty class room.

We sit in some chairs trying to calm down. I look at Austin as he looks at me. He smiles and I smile a bit. I hope David is alright with those other people.

David's POV

I stare down Casey not even glancing at Daniel. "Daniel, you always come in at the last second."

Daniel shrugs as he walks up next to Casey. "I was only going to step in if Casey here started yelling at her."

Casey growls as he folds his arms. "It was so annoying when she was stuttering."

I clenches my hands ready to punch Casey. A low growl starts in my chest. "You scared her so bad. What do you expect?"

Casey rolls his eyes. "Whatever. She's not my responsibility."

Casey turns and walks away annoyed. Daniel walks off after him. I give a frustrated sigh before turning and heading for class.
