"Neph stop biting Cain!" Alexa shouted.

By now, the twins were shoulder height with the woman, about the size of a raptor, and weighed as much as a cow. They showed responsiveness to human interaction at an early age, so training began early.

Neph stopped snapping at her brother when Alexa yelled and Cain growled before scampering off.

"Cain get your whining self back here!"

Cain cried before emerging from the dense foliage. His scales rippled from greens to his normal pigment. Alexa looked into his eyes and Cain lowered his head.

The woman laughed before reaching out to scratch the male under his chin. Cain purred, leaning into her touch. Neph looked on, jealousy in her eyes. Her mouth opened to let out a low growl.

"Don't be so harsh towards your brother. You know I love you both, right Neph?" Alexa reached out towards the female. Neph just turned her head away.

"Don't you give me that crap. Look at me, Neph."

The female turned her head to face Alexa.

"That's better."

[]

"Look at me, Neph. Don't look at the glass." Alexa directed the dinosaur's eyes towards her instead of the viewing room.

"Good girl."

Neph purred, lowering her head to nudge Alexa.

"I know, baby. I know."

[]

"Hey, Nyx. Who would this be?" Alexa cautiously walked towards the towering Baryonyx.

Corona stood beside him, her long snout pushing forward a hatchling from behind Nyx's leg. Alexa reached out, her hand palm up. The hatchling sniffed her hand, moving ever closer. The woman reached behind her, pulling a fish out of the bucket by her leg.

"Here. It's food."

The hatchling went back a few paces. Nyx nudged him forward again, assuring them that the fish was good to eat. The hatchling went forward again, mouth out and open to grab the fish.

"Miss Alexa!"

The hatchling cried out and booked it farther into the enclosure, both Nyx and Corona following.

"What!?" Alexa yelled out, annoyed.

"Your presence is required immediately!"

The woman rolled her eyes.

"It's the twins!"

Alexa started to run.

[]

"No. No, no, no, no!" Alexa's hands were over her open mouth in horror.

Cain's bloody body lay in front of her. He was missing an arm, part of his thigh, and a huge chunk of his tail. Cain weakly raised his head, raising his glassy eyes to meet Alexa. The woman walked toward him, much to the muzzled Neph's displeasure.

"It's fine, baby. You're ok." Alexa ran her hand over Cain's head, blood catching on her open hand.

Cain let his head fall, a grunt coming from his mouth. A scientist came forward, syringe in hand.

"Just a few more seconds of pain and you'll feel better, ok?" Alexa's soothing voice calmed Cain. The scientist came forward, inserting the syringe between Cain's scales. The male closed his eyes and his breathing become shallower as time passed.

Alexa cried and Neph struggled in her chains. The woman stood, walking over to the female. Neph stilled her head, wishing for her trainer's touch. Alexa took one step towards Neph before she turned and left through the employee door.

[]

Neph walked through her enclosure, the branches of the thick trees brushing her back. She watched Alexa enter with her tubs of fresh meat. The scent was intoxicating and it lured the massive hybrid out of the trees.

"Hey, Neph." Alexa greeted.

Neph could feel the change in her attitude after she killed Cain. Neph couldn't have someone stealing her only friend, even if that someone was her brother. Alexa had become more distant and she visited less often, but she still held the same love for Neph as she did when Cain was alive.

Alexa set down the tubs and held out a chunk for Neph to eat. The dino came forward and took it in her jaws, swallowing the small morsel whole. Alexa dumped the rest of the tub's contents on the enclosure floor before sitting down nearby.

Neph made a low growl and nudged Alexa.

"I'm not going to be visiting anymore, Neph. You're grown and you don't need me anymore. Just be good while I'm gone, 'kay?"

Neph whined and dug her nose into Alexa's stomach.

"I know. I'll miss you too."

The hybrid thought otherwise. She could smell the other creatures Alexa cared for. She thought Alexa didn't love her anymore. She wanted her trainer's full attention. She would kill anything that got in her way.

"I love you too, Neph."

Alexa sat up and brushed the dirt off her shorts before walking out. Once the door shut, Neph walked back into her enclosure's dense forest, leaving her meal untouched. The hybrid turned her head towards to viewing area. The fat security guard was missing from his chair. The spiderwebbed cracking in one of the panes was evidence of her attempt to try and grab him.

Neph headed towards the den which laid deep in the foliage. The dinosaur settled down, curling her tail around her. It was these same walls every hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for the 3 years since her hatch. She would break out one day.

And she would eradicate anything that stood in her way.
