14. The Carnival

AquaMarine's P.O.V
I glanced at the monitor that Batman was using, all there was were codes and a bunch of numbers. Cat looked back at me but turned back to Batman instantly.
"Are we gonna use her for back up?" Cat whispers, but I could still hear her.
"We have Batgirl and Robin, we don't need her." He announces clear as day.
"Yeah, well they don't have powers." She keeps whispering.
"And she isn't classically trained!" Batman yells to Cat. I need to help her, so she can help me. I know I sound selfish but I do really need help and I can't do anything without her and her green friend.
Cat's eyes find mine and she walks down to me. She undoes her whip that's around my wrists and looks up at me.
"I guess you can't come, you're not-"
"Classically trained." I interrupt, she sighs.
"I heard." I tell Cat.
"It's fine, I wouldn't help anyways. The plant doesn't even like me, and frankly I don't like her." I look down at the floor.
"How did you find me?" Cat asks, ignoring my statement.
"I-" I was cut off by Batman yelling for Cat.
"I gotta go." Cat locks me back into the small room and leaves with Batman.
I found Cat when I was looking through tragedies in Gotham. I needed to help someone with one of their tragedies but I went to person after person after person and everyone shut me out. I figured they would, I would if I were them too. But I finally found a story about a girl named Harley Quinn that had been beaten to death by The Joker.
I didn't want to do this case because dealing with The Joker would not end well, but I didn't have any other choice. Catwoman and Poison Ivy were friends with Harley Quinn, I figured they wanted revenge. I could help with something and they would help me back.

CatWoman's P.O.V

We arrive at a old, beaten down carnival, figures. Pam would have found this quick because of Harley, of course. Harley always spilled everything to Ivy, even the hideouts. Hopefully we're here before Pam is. Bruce signals for us to move to a barn in the carnival. I quickly but silently move towards the barn, quicker than Batgirl and Robin.
The barn smells like complete mildew and moss was climbing up it. I wait for the other two and we all stand at the door as Batman investigates other areas. We try to open the doors but they're jammed shut. The floor was- is that glass?
I point to the ground and they look at me confused. Huge pieces of broken glass was under a mossy plant.
"Wow, glass." Robin sarcastically says.
I ignore him and I crawl down to the floor and inspect it, it's freshly clear with no fog and no finger prints. It's brand new, someones here.
"By the barn, fresh glass." I tell Bruce through the walky talky.
"Selina!" A cry comes from behind me. I turn instantly and Barb swings up toward the roof of the rusted barn.
I swing my whip toward the roof and swing up with Batgirl which I'm followed by Robin. Huge green vines swing around in the distance, they're in a building. A smash comes from behind us and all of us turn as fast as we can, it's Bruce.
"She's over there." I bark to Bruce he nods and runs off the roof, and towards the smashing vines and we follow. Now the big huge vines are in front of us, almost smashing us. The vines smash through the walls of a huge building that doesn't even belong in a carnival.
Batman shots one of the monstrous vines with a, um I actually don't know what it is, but it's black and looks like a gun. The vines shrink and scramble back into the huge broken building.
We start running toward the building, we look through the dirty, broken windows. Nobody.
I look over at Bruce but he ignores me and starts running to a close building, we run behind him.
We get to the building which is even bigger than the last. Long but skinny and made out of metal but all rusted. I look up at Bruce for answers, still no response as usual. We sneak around the building, no windows, no doors. Bruce and I pounce up to the roof while the others keep watch. On the roof is small brick chimney. I go to the edge of the roof to call for the others. Rain starts pounding on the metal roof and gets harder by the seconds. Great, rain.
I signal for them to come and they jump up onto the roof. The rain is now furiously pouring, making the metal roof slippery.
"You have to go in first." I whisper to Barb. She's the only one that can fall right through the chimney without making too much noise, once she makes sure it's safe and we can make noise while go through it.
She steps onto the outer edge of the chimney, about to jump in. She looks behind her and locks eyes with Robin, I can see fear in her eyes. Why is she so scared this time? She's dealt with worse, way worse. She looks back into the chimney and jumps in, sliding right through. Robin passes a look to me and I keep the look, not passing it to Bruce. He wouldn't react anyways. We stand here for a while without any movement.
She hasn't responded in a while now, did something happen? A buzz comes from Bruce's talky.
"All safe." She says from the talky, thank God. Robin walks to the chimney and jumps in, my turn. I don't want to jump in because I would most likely just stick to the sides. So I place both my legs into the hole, keeping my arms on the outer chimney. I let go of the chimney and wiggle down, the rain helped with that. I drop onto the floor and look around, it's dark but light enough so we could see. Where was the light coming from, though? I feel Bruce land next to me.
"Check every room, keep nothing unchecked." We nod and split up.
This looks like an abandoned hospital, why was it sitting in a carnival... with no entrance? This is very suspicious. I walk into a room without a door, it has medical supplies thrown everywhere, a doctor bed with... dried blood?! Fun. Syringes lie all over the place, some with blood in them, some with different substances inside, and some with nothing. I pick up my talky.
"I found a very suspicious room filled with used medical supplies, dried blood, and syringes with different substances in them." I say through the talky. I feel a hard grip on my shoulder, I turn to see who it is but they grab onto my other shoulder and turn me back around.
"Selina why did you come?"
