Mum pushed a box over to me from across the table. She had a hopeful smile on her face. It grew a little bigger and turned into a grin as I tore it carefully.
Mum sat up a bit in anticipation. " Ooh! Summer you're making me sweat! Oh go on and open it ! The wrapping didn't cost too much."
I sighed and pulled back my fringe and clipped it back. " I'll open it in my own time thank you very much."
Mum nodded and stood up. She looked down and pulled up her shirt. " Should I get one of them whatsits? Um... breast implants! They're hanging like Christmas decorations!"
She began to giggle in an arrogant manor. Handling them and raising them up to see the difference. I shook my head in shame. A man walked past the window and wolf whistled. " Hot! Can I get some pictures?"
Mum giggled like a school girl flashing her knickers to the football team. " Sorry! No pictures! Maybe next time honey!"
The man nodded and then looked at me. His eyes were bright blue, he had pale white skin and thick brown hair. His wild grin grew into a softer sympathetic smile. He winked and headed down the road. I cringed. My mouth felt dry. Mum gave me a strange look. " You alright love? Seem bothered."
I banged my fist on the table. " Of course I'm freakin' bothered! Stop acting like a blooding porn star! Sit down and pull your shirt down! Don't embarrass me."
Mum slumped back into her seat. " Fine... Open the present."
I peeled the wrapping paper and finally pulled it off. An I phone. I didn't really need a phone. There was no point in a fancy phone. I already had one. The nokia 3310.It was old, and the screen was cracked, but it was still a phone. Mum noticed. But tried to take no notice of my disappointment.
" D-Do you like it?" She fiddled with her hair. " This was very costy. So don't go breaking it." It felt like she was scolding me.
I picked at the sellotape and opened it up. The I phone shone. I looked at my reflection. I wasn't ugly. But this phone was too glamorous. I placed it back in it's box. Mum huffed.
" Thanks mum..." I whispered. I couldn't bring a smile to my face.
Mum stood up again and grabbed her coat. " Bye."
I shot up. " Where are you going?"
"Home. I'm done with this attitude of yours. I go out in the pouring rain and buy this for you. I thought I raised you up to be more grateful."
She headed for the door and closed it behind her. I kept a straight face until I saw her get into the car and drive away. Tears welled up inside me and I dashed into the toilet. I couldn't stop crying. My face went bright red. I was alone. I act this way for no reason. I would lose everybody soon.
