Chapter 1: The Wavecrest's

"Sweetheart time to get up," dad called up the stairs.

Ug it's a school day. I hate Ocean View High there's never anything exciting going on here. This town is so boring. But then again I can't really remember much of my life before I moved here to EverGreen to live with my dad.

According to dad I'm the one who found him. I can't really remember anything though because a year after I moved here I was involved in a car crash. My babysitter had died instantly because she was the driver and I got a huge scar on my back and amnesia. Ever since then I've never worn any clothes that would show my back and I stopped swimming.

Lucky for me though Ocean View High has a strict uniform so I never had to explain why I don't wear clothes showing my back. Also since we have a swimming team there are 2 different gym classes one strictly for swimming and another one that is just for sports.

"Morning dad," I said kissing him on the cheek as I entered the kitchen.

"Good morning Akyrie. Did you sleep well?" he asked handing me my breakfast.

"Yes dad. So you going to the Marina today?" my dad is the owner of the Marina and usually goes for visits.

"Not today sweetheart. I have to go to CloverView today to pick up a special dolphin feed. A baby dolphin was found washed up on the shore and it's in bad shape so we're going to nurse it back to health," he replied. The Marina also sort of stands in for animal rescue at sea, so it's not rare that they are nursing an animal back to health. Depending on how old they are when he rescues them he may return them to the wild.

Dad turned on the news after that. We always eat breakfast well watching the news to see about injured animals, or any accidents that had occurred recently.

"There are rumors of people spotting a very large fish near EverGreen. They say that the fins appear to be like that off a dolphins except more fish like and longer. Is this a new species of fish or are people just seeing things that's what news reporter Dan Weathercield is going to find out," said Alyca Keys the morning news girl.

"Hmm what type of fish do you think it is dad?"

"If I didn't know better I'd think that people are talking about mermaids. That's the only known species that has a tail fin like that," Dad laughed.

"Hey dad you never know mermaids and mermen could be real," I told him. For some reason it felt believable to me that merpeople existed.

"Yeah I guess that's true mythical creatures are based off of something after all," dad replied. Although I don't think he really agrees with me.

"Ok dad well I have to go," I said after seeing the time.

"Bye Akyrie have a good day," dad called after me as I ran out the door with my bag.

It was a 15 minute walk from my house to school, but I usually ran so I got there in only 7 minutes. Only slowing down my pace once I got to the gates of school.

"Hey Ky," my best friend Alec said walking up to me.

"Morning Alec. Where's Missy?" I asked him. Missy is my other best friend and Alec's girlfriend.

"She had a swim meet today so she won't be back until after lunch."

"Oh yeah I forgot," Alec laughed at this.

"Of course you did Ky. You forget everything," he said joking about how I couldn't remember my life before EverGreen at all.

"Not funny Alec. So we have history first right?"
