I was on my way to work when I heard a girl screaming in an alley, because of the stupidly heroic brain I was currently on, my legs started to move on their own. Soon I had knocked out the mugger that was attacking a little girl in an alley, classic mugging scenario there, can't these criminals come up with something original? I rushed over to help the girl up, she looked about 12 to 14 and she was shaking so hard that I swore I heard bones rattle.
"Hey, it's alright now, you're safe," I say.
A few little tears rolled out from behind her dark sunglasses, "H-He killed them, he was going to kill me too!" she said.
I looked around and spotted two motionless figures so I let go of the girl and walked over to find a man and a woman, both dead, "Oh my God," I said softly.
I called Clive to tell him what I just stumbled upon then turned to the girl, asking if the couple were her parents and she nodded, wiping her eyes.
"Are you going to send me to an orphanage? Please don't, I've been to too many!" she said, "I was transferred back and forth until my real mom and dad found me three years ago."
"Hey, don't worry, first we'll go to the police station and you'll tell us what happened then we'll figure out where you're gonna go," I say as I gently hold her shoulders.
She nodded slightly as more tears rolled down her cheeks, "My name is Midnight Becker, thank you for saving me," she says then hugs me suddenly.
My nail scratching her neck slightly as she does and I softly gasp, what had I just done?-fifteen minutes later-
"Sorry it took us so long to get here," Clive told me.
I was hugging my arms in worry for the little girl, "It's alright, it wasn't that long."
"From what I gather, their names are Charlie and Hannah Becker, mugger slit the back of their necks causing instantaneous death," Ravi said as he walked up, "at least they didn't suffer too much? Sorry, trying to be positive for the girl," he said and gestured to the girl sitting on the hood of a police car, being asked questions.
The girl refused to take off her sunglasses, no matter what, I was still worried about scratching her, she's already gone through enough today. I told Ravi but he didn't know what to do. We all walked over and she was twirling an opal knife in her hands.
"That's a nice knife you got there, where'd you get it?" Clive asked, trying to start up a conversation.
"My mom gave it to me last year for my birthday, it's purely decorative so it's not as dangerous as other things, I carry it everywhere," she said sadly, "you don't have watch what you say around me, my dad worked in a morgue, I'm used to death."
"So, Midnight, why don't you tell us what happened?" Clive asked.
