"Well, my parents and I were going out for my mom's birthday, Dad said he had a surprise for the both of us but he's terrible at keeping secrets. He was going to take us to the restaurant that he and Mom met in, she probably didn't know because she's, to put it nicely, a bit oblivious, she forgets stuff all over the place and she doesn't understand what's going on even if it's right in front of her. We were walking back home from Outback Steak House when that guy pulled Mom and Dad into the alley and told them to hand over their stuff, I was frozen in fear. They...They refused and he snapped, s-slicing the backs of their necks and taking almost everything, then he came after me. He kicked me against the brick wall and told me to give him everything valuable I had, I...I cried and screamed as I fought back and he was about to slit my throat when she showed up then saved me," Midnight says and points at me before looking at me, "You're my hero."
"It was really nothing, I just tackled him and landed a lucky punch that knocked the mugger out," I say.
Clive puts a hand on the girl's shoulder, "Thanks for telling us, don't worry, we'll find you a good home," he says.
"There's a traffic cam right up there that can see right into the alley, you can check it and it will prove what I said, and we left Outback half an hour ago, you can check with them and they'll confirm we were there," she said then looked up at Clive who is a bit taken aback, "I watch a lot of cop shows, they always want proof no matter what alibis say."
"Okay, I don't think I need to check those things out," Clive said, "I'll just take your word for it kid," he told her before walking over to a few other cops.
I walk closer then sit on the hood next to her, "You're taking this awfully well," I point out.
She shakes her head slightly, "I'm not, I should be bawling my eyes out but so much bad has happened in my life and my heart is just shattered. I'm just kind of numb, it can't be a good sign, I guess I'm kind of used to death," she said before leaning into me.
I hug her gently then Ravi pulls me away and speaks in a low voice, "Liv, what about you scratching her? We can not just let her go," he says.
"I know but what are we supposed to do? Adopt her?" I ask.
