The Dressage Dream

Chapter 6

"Go over that 3'6 vertical!" Linda yelled across the busy schooling ring. "Good! Now let's go over to the ring you're going to be showing in." She said after I cleared the fence and brought Chester down to a walk. I have been jumping for 4 months.

"So you now the course right?" Linda asked both me and Rose. "Yeah!" Me and Rose said at the same time. "On course now is Rose Roads on Starlight." The announcer said. I watched Rose and also studied the course. It was a pretty easy jumper course.

"Next into the ring is Lilly Seen on Chester." The announcer said after Rosie walked out of the arena. "We've got this boy." I said to Chester.

I picked up the canter and started at a blue vertical then left to a bright red oxer. After 9 other jumps we came to a vertical with colorful poles and standards. It was the last jump of the course and we made it! "I love you so much Chester!" I said to my gelding as I brought him down to a walk.

"That was an awesome course girls!" My trainer said as we waited for our results. "In third place is Rose Roads, in second place we have Joanna Bleu and in first is......... Lilly Seen!" The announcer said. "Oh my gosh I can't believe we won!" I said. "Nice job!" Rose and Linda said. "Thanks guys!" I said. Rose and I collected our ribbons and ended home.

"Morning mom." I said walking into the barn. "Morning hunny." Mom said hugging me. "Nice job yesterday! Sorry I couldn't be there I had to pick up a client." She said. "It's fine. Chester was a rockstar." I said. "Well I'm going to ride Checkers and Ginger." I said walking away.

I talked to Ginger's owner and she said it was fine to start jumping Ginger. So I was going to bring Ginger to the next show which was this weekend. I was planning on jumping Ginger today and just flatting Checkers. My mom had gotten me a ottb to work with so I had to work that into my schedule which was fine by me!

"Easy girl!" I said to Ginger as we cantered to a 2'6 vertical. "That looked wonderful!" My mom said entering the ring. "Thanks we are getting there." I said as we landed the jump. "Is it okay if I ride in here." My mom asked me. "Yeah of course!" I said. "Anyway we are done I just have to cool her out." I added.

After I cooled Ginger out and flatted Checkers I walked into Prince's stall. "Hey boy." I cooed to the 16.3 hh bay gelding. "We are just going to do an easy ride today." I said talking to my horse.

"That's a boy." I said patting Prince's neck. For some reason he was being silly about going to a trot. I cooled him out and then headed to the house. I spent all day at the barn. It was 6:30 pm.

"Hey mom. Can I talk to you about something?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen. "Yeah sure!" She said. "Do you think any of your students would want to lease Checkers?" I asked. "Oh yeah I'm sure. Why do you ask?" She asked me. "Well I haven't really had time to ride him and spend time with him. And Linda has a horse that she wants me to ride, train and bring to shows. And I also have Chester, Ginger and Prince. So I have a full plate." I answered. "Yeah I get it. I'll talk to my students tomorrow." My mom said.

"Have you found anyone to lease Checkers?" I asked my mom the next afternoon. "Yes acutally." She answered me. "Can she ride him this evening?" My mom asked me. "Yeah sure. What time?" I asked. "4:30?" She answered. "Sounds good and can Linda drop off that training horse at 3?" I asked my mom. "Yep!" She answered. "Awesome I'll text Rose and see if she wants to spend the night?" I kind of asked my mom. "Sounds good!" I heard my mom say as I walked out of her office.

I was so excited for this 'training' horse to come so I busied myself in riding my horses and getting the stall ready for this horse. I walked out of the barn as Linda's truck and trailer pull up. Linda and Rose jumped out and headed over to me.

"Ready to get him unloaded?" Linda asked me. "Yeah his stall is over here." I said pointing to a stall next to Chester. After we got 'Casper' in the stall. I looked at him. He was a 16.1 hh dark bay warmblood. "Wow" is all I could manage. "Yeah he is a beauty." Linda said. "So the owners just want you to ride and show him to get him noticed." She said. "He has jumped pretty high." She added. "Okay so he is fully trained?" I asked. "Yep!" She said. This is awesome I thought to myself.

After Linda left we unpacked Casper's tack and such. "So one of my mom's students is coming to ride Checkers to see if she wants to lease him." I said to Rosie. "Awesome!" She said back. "Acutally she should be here any minute." I said. I soon as I finished my sentence my mom walked in with a girl about 16.

"Wake up or I'm going to dump a bucket of water on your head." I said as I ran to the sink and filled up a bucket of water. "Don't!" Rosie said going back to sleep. So I poured water on her head.

After Rosie yelled at me for dumping water on her head we got dressed and headed to the barn. She brought Star yesterday with Casper. "Let's go on a trail ride!" We said at the same time. "Lol." We laughed. "Okay let me just go tell my mom and you start brushing Star and Ginger.

"Mom!" I yelled walking into her office. "Hey!" She said. "I have something bad to tell you." She added. "What is it?" I asked her. "Ginger's owner died." My mom said. "Oh my gosh!" I said. "Yeah and she her daughter said that she wanted you to have Ginger." My mom said. "Wow!" I said. "Is it okay if me and Rose go to her house and jump some cross country jumps then come back here." I asked. "Sounds good!" My mom answered.

"Ready?" I asked Rose as we got on. "Yep!" She answered. "Ginger's owner died." I said suddenly. "Oh that's sad." Rose said. "Yeah and her daughter gave me Ginger." I said quickly. "That's good!" Rosie said. "Yeah!" I answered. "Come on let's canter!" I suddenly said.
