The Dressage Dream

Chapter 3

"Hey mom!" I said. "He was awesome! We did a couple of flying lead changes and some leg yields!" I added. I was talking about Checkers, I have been working him everyday for the past 2 weeks. "That's awesome, honey" Mom said to me. "Do you think I could maybe do the schooling show with him next weekend?" I asked. "We will see, I'm bringing some clients with their horses and they don't have trailers so I might have to trailer them, and we only have a 4 horse trailer. But we will see." She answered. "Okay thanks mom!" I said. Once I untacked him and put all of his green tack away in my tack box, I turned him out. "Good boy today, Checkers!" I told my horse.

2 days later
"Hey mom!" I said. "Have you thought about bringing Checkers and me to the show?" I added. "Yes and there is 1 spot left in the trailer so yes you can bring Checkers!" She said back. "Thanks mom! You are the best!" I said. "I guess you could say that!" She said. "The test for your level is in the tack room on your tack box." She said. "Wait! You know I was going to go?" I asked. "Yes I did, I have known since last week!" She told me. "Why didn't you tell me?!" I asked. "I wanted it to be a surprise!" She said. "Oh okay!" I said. "I'm going to go learn it then go practice it on Checkers!" I added. "Okay honey!" She said to me. Once I had Checkers ready to go all in orange tack, which was orange polos and an orange saddle pad. After I warmed him up w/t/c both ways, I started on my dressage test. It was pretty simple something like this enter working trot, track left and do a 20 meter circle.

        "Good boy!" I said as I gave Checkers a pat. We just did an awesome dressage test. It was the day of the schooling show and we just finished our test. I was the last one in my division to go. "Why don't you go see what you got and I'll take Checkers for you." Mom said. "Okay thanks mom!" I said back. "Mom! Guess what?!" I said excitedly! "What?!" She asked. "Checkers and I got....... 2nd place!" I said! "Honey, that's awesome!!" She said. "Okay let's head home and celebrate!" She added. "Okay mom!" I said. Once we got home and I put Checkers away, and of course gave him a couple of treats I headed into the house to celebrate! "Thanks mom for the great night!" I said. We had an awesome party and it was 12:30 am so it was early morning. "I'm heading up to bed, I'm super tired." I said. "Yeah honey me too, I love you." She said. "Me too mom!" I answered.

              "Good morning mom!" I said as I walked into the barn. It was 8:30 am which was pretty late for me walking into the barn. Usually I would have been done riding 1 horse already but today I slept into 8 o'clock which was SUPER late for me to wake up at. "Hey boy" I cooed to Checkers. "Let me grab my brushes to brush you with." I said. It's the day after the schooling show so Checkers has off. Once I brushed him I turned him out into his pasture and went to catch Chester. My mom said that she wants me to start riding Chester everyday now! She even might let me show him! She says that I ride him really well. Which would be awesome because then I have two horses to show! "Mom! Chester was awesome today!" I said. "That's awesome!" She said. "And my b-day is in 1 day! Well actually it's tomrrow." I said. "Yes it is!" She said.

                        1 day later
"Good morning birthday girl!" Mom said as I walked into the barn. "Good morning mom!" I said. "How about you ride Chester first today?" She asked. "Yeah sure!" I said. As I walked into Chester's I noticed there was a big red bow around his neck. Taped to the bow was a card saying happy birthday and saying that Chester was a birthday present for me! Chester was mine now! I gave Chester a hug and ran to my mom's office and gave her a hug too! "Thanks mom!!" I said. "Your welcome honey! You deserve him! You have worked really hard with Chester and Checkers so I decided to give him to you." She said. "Thanks mom you're the best!" I said to mom as I gave her another hug. "I'm going to ride my new horse and then after that I'm going to ride my other horse! I can't believe I own 2 horses now!"  I said in one breath. "Good boy, Chester." I said to my horse. We just had a fun trail ride and I was untacking him. Once I put his tack away and turned him out I went to catch Checkers from his pasture. After I tacked up Checkers I got on and decided to go on another trail ride. "Come on boy lets go!" I said to Checkers even though I didn't need to. We were galloping up the hill that was fun to gallop up. Once we got to the top of the hill I decided to head home because I still had Devil to ride and I wanted to talk to mom about a couple of shows that are coming up. "Hey mom." I said.

            "Hey honey." She said. "How was Chester, Checkers and Devil?" She asked. "Good!" I said. "I wanted to talk to you about a couple of shows that were coming up." I added. "Okay." She said. "Well there is a show that is coming up this weekend and I was maybe wondering if I could ride my 2 horses in it?" I asked. "Yes but could you ride Devil in it for me?" She asked me. "Yeah sure mom!" I responded. "I would ride Devil myself but I think that I'm going to bring Joe and you know Joe he can be crazy at different places. So all my attention needs to be on him." She told me. "Okay sounds good!" I said back. 2 more days until my first show with Chester I thought to myself as I went out to catch Devil. I had already rode both of my horses and since I was showing Devil for my mom I needed to practice my test on him. I was doing the same test for all 3 horses I was riding. "That was better." I said to Devil as I brought him back down to walk. We couldn't pick up the left lead for some reason from he walk but he finally just got it.

         "Do you have everything?" Mom asked as we got into the truck. It was the day of the show and we were leaving home and it was only 45 minutes to the farm that the show was at. "Yes." I responded. Once I had Chester tacked up and ready to go we heading out to the ring. Salute at X. I thought to myself. "Awesome job, Devil!" I said. I already had gone on my 2 horses and got 1st with Chester, 3rd with Checkers and 6th with Devil. I was really happy! After we put the horses in their paddocks, we headed into the house it was only 9:30 pm but we had a very long day.

            "Good morning mom!" I said as I grabbed a apple for breakfast. "Good morning!" She said. "I'm heading out to the barn, is there anyone you want me to ride?" I asked. "Actually yes could you ride Blue for me?" She asked. "Yeah sure!" I said. After I tacked up Blue with royal blue polos and saddle pad, we headed out to the outdoor because it was sunny outside! I warmed him up and then did some leg yields. He was pretty good at them. "Good boy today." I said to Blue as I turned him out and headed to go catch one of my horses to groom.
