I walked into chemistry with a large smile on my face. It grew even more when I saw Em.

Only a week after meeting her and we were virtually inseparable. I stalked towards her quietly before grabbing her shoulders and shouting, "boo!"

She jumped out of her seat, ready to attack. "You're a jerk," she said when she finally saw me.

"I know," I said laughing. She rolled her eyes and sat back down. "Something I can assist you with Mr Andrews? Or did you come over here just to be an ass?”

I paused and pretended to think about it for a moment. "Can it not be both?" I asked arching my eyebrow high. Her lips began to tilt into a smile but she seemed to fight it before it disappeared.
"Why are-" the bell rang cutting her off. "We will continue this conversation shortly Ms Cassidy," I said dramatically, finally pulling a laugh out of her.

"Okay class, today we will continue or conversation on elemental polarities, but first we have a new student," Mr Tobin said from his perch at the front of the classroom. A tall kid stood at the front of the classroom in khaki pants and a blue checkered shirt.

His blond hair was combed to the side perfectly, no cowlick in sight, not for this asshole. Unlike me, who's hair couldn't stay down for the life of me. I looked over at Emerson, trying to gauge her reaction.

Did she like him? Did she think he was better than me?

I couldn't tell. Her face was unreadable and it bothered me more than I'd like to admit.

"Would you like to introduce yourself?" Mr Tobin asked him. "My name's George and I'm from Seattle." Everyone, except me of course, responded with a hi George like this was a fucking AA meeting.

"You can take a seat next to Emerson, Mr Boyd," Mr Tobin said before droning on about oxygen polarity.

But I couldn't take my eye off George as he made his way cockily over to Em. Self righteous asshole.

I swear on the Cub's next game I will kill-

"Mr Andrews!" Tobin snapped. I looked over at him confused. "Yes?" The class snickered loudly. "Can you please at least try to pay attention to the words coming out my mouth?"

"Uh yeah."

Of course by the end of the class I had no idea what Mr Tobin had taught. I was to distracted by Em's reaction to George, or lack thereof.

"Hey! You didn't wait for me," Em said, jogging to catch up. "Shit, I'm sorry. I was lost in thought," I said wincing. "You're capable?" She joked. I shrugged, "it's rare, but it does happen."

She laughed and rolled her eyes. Eventually thoughts of George Boyd left my mind.

"Hey you wanna come over to my place to study for that trig test?" I asked her as we walked out the front door of the school.

She paused for a second before responding.

"Sure, would your parents be okay with that?"

"Yep. Swear on my heart," I added when she shot me a doubtful look. "Okay let me text my dad real quick."

We waited by my car while she texted her dad. When she was done we were off.

"So, what do you think of George?" I asked casually. "George?" I smiled at the small victory that she didn't even remember him.

"George Boyd? Your new chemistry partner?" I glanced at her as she sat in the passenger's seat.

"Um, he seems okay," she answered, seeming to struggle to form words.

"Well I gotta stop and get something to eat so you're joining me," I laughed out, smiling at her. Damn this girl was gorgeous, inside and out.

"If you insist," she said laughing back, shaking her head.

My hands tightened around the steering wheel, turning my knuckles white. It was nearly bending under the force of will it took to not pull her into my arms and kiss her until we were both out of breath.

Today she had decided to wear a black v neck that hugged every curve with a red flannel and jeans. To most it was casual but to me it was sexy as hell.

"Where are we gonna eat?"

"How about Sonic?"

"Holy hell yes! That's my favorite fast food place. You've never truly lived until you have had a nerds slushy," she said excitedly, nearly bouncing with joy.

"What the hell?" I asked, gagging at the thought. "You've never had a nerd slushy at Sonic?" She asked as of I had just hit a puppy. "Nope. Didn't know that sort of thing existed.”

"Let me out," she said, dead serious. "What? Why?" I asked.

"I can't be in the car with a non nerd slushy believer, it goes against my moral code."

I laughed loudly. "Just in the car?"

"In any proximity actually, it might get dangerous."

I fucking loved this girl. "Yeah?"

"Oh yeah," she said nodding seriously. "What if I agree to try this nerd slushy combination?"

"If you try it I will allow you to be near me." She said, her serious facade falling. We sat in silence for a few seconds before loosing our shit.

We pulled into Sonic and ordered our food.

"How's your dad," I asked trying to make conversation as I bit into my burger. The red light turned green and I pulled off. "Oh, he's okay, busy with work."

"Fry me," I said opening my mouth. She popped a few fries into my mouth. "How old is your sister again?"

"Thirteen, turns fourteen in May." She nodded and popped more fries in my open mouth. She liked the salt from her fingers and my pants tightened uncomfortably.

We pulled into the driveway of my house and we quickly made our way inside. "I'm home mom!" I shouted as I set my keys on the tray in the hallway. She didn't respond but I heard music from the kitchen.

"You want something to drink?" I asked Em. "Just some water." I nodded and gestured for her to follow me to the kitchen. "Hey mom."

She turned and her smile said it all.
