A Boys Life

Chapter 6:

I ran into the commons and I saw a girl, she had black hair and was sickly pale. She had dark red welts around her eyes and her arms looked like they'd been scratched by multiple cats. She was hunched over and looked like she was about to lose her lunch at any second. I saw Aya out of the corner of my eye go up to her. She held the girls hand and went limp bringing Aya to the ground with her. The girl started choking and eventually the nurse came over and huddled over her. Aya stood up and watched. The girl then started screaming about who knows what but it was starting to bring attention. The nurse did a quick "examination" she then looked into the girls eyes and the nurses face went pale. She pulled the top of her shirt over her mouth and got up and took a few steps backwards. Aya then got close to the girl. The nurse yelled at her to get back and Aya did as she was told. The girl lies down and was mumbling something to her self. Eventually some EMRs (Emergency Medical Responders) came in and towed the girl away. The whole scene had attracted an audience of 30 people and we were all pretty anxious to know what happened.
That's when is saw Tay run outside the front doors. I followed her. She was running through the parking lot and I jogged after her. The EMRS were leaving and you could hear their sirens going off in the distance. Tay stopped at a small green car and put her head against the door. It's starts to rain a little bit. I finish jogging to her and say,"I'm so sorry for you".
"Sorry? I'm not sad because of that, my friend Luna was put in the hospital today and they said she's in critical condition from some disease, I just want to be there for her, I guess that's why I freaked out today".
I say,"oh jeez sorry I didn't know is that where your going now?"
"Yes it is actually I need to see her if this is her last moments alive, wanna come keep me company?". I smile and say,"well how could I say no?". She laughs and opens the car door for me. I get in and she does as well. She turns on the car and a Ted Sheeran song starts playing,"oh my goodness I love this song!". I smile and turn it up. We drive to the hospital in the heart of the city.

We pull up to a large white building that stands out.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I ask Tay,"I don't know are you?". I reach for her hand but she pulls away and opens her door. I open my door and follow her to the front of the building. She gleams with confidence as she enters the lobby and then there me, a little puppy lost in this insane world". When I walk in though I get stares and some people even leave the lobby, one kid ran back to his mom and she gave me a death stare. I put my hands in my pocket and follow Tay. We get to the front desk and the lobby waiter stands there staring at my mark. "I'm sorry but we do not," she took a deep breath. "We don't provide service to his kind". She pointed at me and Tay looked back at me with sad eyes. She turned back around to the lobby holder and slammed her fist against the desk. I jumped and the whole lobby stared at us. "Excuse me but I will not tolerate this, he's with me," she grabbed my cold clammy hand. "Now we can take this outside if we have to but me and him are going up that elevator to see our friend whether you like it or not". The room went silent and Tay and I walked to the elevator hand in hand. She clicked the number 26 and we stood there in silence listening to a song from more than a hundred years ago. The elevator doors slid open and we were hit by a stench so unsettling I heard Tay gag. We walked out of the elevator and that's when we saw the bodies piled up behind a desk, they had a layer of slick plastic and they all had a tag on them. We hurried by and searched for a nurse. We eventually found a nurse who was covered in something that looked vile.
"You kids should not be up here, we are having an outbreak and it's not safe for you here".
"We really need to see our friend though". Tay says.
"Well your up here already so the harms already done, what's your friends name?".
"Her name is Luna". Tay says.
"Oh Luna, follow me".
We walk into a dim room with 3 beds one which is covered in a vile green/brown color. Then we see Luna, she looks like she's about to pass out any minute.
"Oh Luna, how did this happen to you?"
She coughs. "The wa-". She can't finish her sentence she's so weak. Tay starts to silently cry and I grab her hand, this time she doesn't pull away. A man in a dark suit soon walks in with a man in a grey suit. They examine Luna.
"You have no right to touch my friend". She grabs at his shoulder and he turns with pepper spray. Tay screams and falls to the floor I then jump at him only to get a kick to the stomach and some pepper spray of my own. I lie on the floor and am about to pass out when a girl walks in.
"This is exactly what mom was looking for boys, well done". She then comes into view, she has dark clean black hair that runs down to her lower back is straightened and up in a high ponytail.
"Zaira, you know your not supposed to get near the patient". One of the guys say.
"It's not airborne dumb ass". She says back.
I look up and zairas eyes stare into mine.
"Looks like we've got a tough one".
She says.
"Protocol?". One of the guys says.
"No ive got this under control".
She stand up straight and kicks me as hard as she can in the nose, my head flys back and I hit the floor facing up this time. Soon everything goes dark and I hear the clink of hospital bed wheels.
