I stood on the porch, watching as the girl and her father continued to pick up the yard, not paying any mind to me. Karen came out with a tray of glasses and lemonades. She looked me up and down and her eyes were hard to read. I forced a smile and she looked back at them. "Lemonade!" she shouted. Mr. Wents turned his head and the young girl with him stood up and turned. I froze. It was Angela Wents, one of the prettiest girls in school. We always had this rivalry against each other since the sixth grade. I wanted to be the prettiest and she wanted to be the richest.

People use to comment on how much we looked alike, but I couldn't see it. She had long sandy brown hair, tannish skin, and bright blue eyes. She was the spitting image of Karen actually. She had on a black tanktop, denim short shorts, workboots, and heavy duty gloves on. Her braid fell down passed the small of her back. Karen smiled and walked towards them, and I started to take her demeanor in. She was trying to pull of confident and sexy, but she was coming off as scared and strange.

She tossed the sticks into a large pile and walked towards Karen as she walked down the stairs. Angela poured herself a glass of lemonade and started to slowly sip on it. Karen turned her head back and she tilted her head to the side, signalling me to come on over. I slowly made my way over to them, not wanting to put up with Angela's crap. Karen stood talking to her daughter, and I could hear her telling her to be nice. I cleared my throat and she smiled at me. "Lindsay, this is my daughter, Angela. Angela, this is Lindsay," she said sweetly.

She just took a large gulp of her drink. "I know," she replied. I just stared at the ground. I scratched the back of my neck.

"Hey, Angela," I said unexcitedly still staring at the ground. I saw Karen's feet shift nervously. "I'm going to go back up to my room." I turned and walked back into the house. It was far too soon to have to see people from school. I hurried up to my room and slammed the door shut behind me. I collapsed into my bed and threw the covers over my head. I curled up into the fetal position and wrapped my arms around my knees. Someone rapped on my door. "Go away!" I nuzzled my face into my knees, hoping that they would get the hint.

The door creaked as it swung on its hinges. I heard the door close and they didn't speak. "My mom said that she wanted me to come up here and make sure that you were okay," the voice finally said. I threw the covers off and saw Angela standing in my room. She stared at me with her piercing blue eyes. "So...are you okay?" I groaned and threw myself back onto the pillows.

"Just go away, Angela." I stared at the blinding ray of sun that came through my window.

"Look, Lindsay, I know we have had problems and all, but my mom thinks that we should be friends. I don't know about you, but I just want her off my back for awhile. I don't normally see people from school during the summer, but I'm willing to come over here and keep you company...I mean when you aren't going to parties and stuff." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Angela Wents, my rival since sixth grade was trying to make amends with me? I sat up and looked back over at her.

"Are you trying to make amends with me?" She shrugged her shoulders.

"Sure why not. It's just that I don't have much to do, and my mom says that you were kind of acting weird last night and most of this morning, and I mean it's depressing just by being around you." She was snarky, but for once, I didn't want to fight with her. I was too tired to fight with anyone at this point.

"Ok. I'm cool with it." I laid back down, wanting to sleep the rest of the day away.

"Hate to ask, but can I stay the night? My mom has been driving me crazy about hanging out with you for the last month and a half." I turned my head to look at her.

"Yeah sure. I don't care. Did you see my parents?" She shook her head.

"My mom said that they were gone when she woke up this morning. I don't know anything else after that." I nodded my head and closed my eyes.

"I'm going to take a nap." She sighed heavily.

"Okay. I'll be downstairs with my parents if you need me." I nodded as she left.
