Dinner was awkward. My father sat at the head of the table, chewing his food quietly while reading through the newspaper and Karen was standing at attention, waiting for someone to need something. Angela sat next to me, staring at her food taking little glances at me to make sure that I was okay. I took a drink of my water and quietly set it back onto the table. Our heads all turned as we heard the door open. My mother came, looking flustered. She was beaming at the plate of food that was still waiting for her. She kissed my dad on the cheek and proceeded to start on her dinner.

"Karen, this is delicious!" she shouted, happily. She turned her head and stared at me.

"Lindsay, what have you and Angela been up too?" I shrugged my shoulders.

"Stay up late, eating junk food, and playing board games mostly," I tell her, taking a big bite out of my mashed potatoes.

"No parties?" I shook my head.

"Don't feel up to going to those. Plus, the last party we went to Angie got harrassed and I won't stand for that. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect." She looked over at me, surprised as did my father.

"That's a very heartfelt thing to say Lindsay, I'm very impressed. Where did this come from?" I shrugged my shoulders, glancing at Angela.

"Being around Angela has taught me some things, kind of like that." He looked over at Angela.

"Well, Angela, thank you for making a difference in our daughter's life." She smiled boldly and she gripped my hand under the table, signalling that I should just get it over with. I took a deep breath.

"Mom, Dad, I think I'm pregnant," I said softly. No they didn't look at me like I was crazy. No, my mother didn't start to cry while my father threatened to kill the guy responsible. They...laughed, bursted into tears, laughing at ME. Like I was some kind of joke or something.

"Oh, Lindsay, you can be so funny sometimes!" My mother shouted. My father sat in his chair, wiping the tears from his eyes. I looked over to Karen, her face ashened. She believed me. Angela squeezed my hand over the table, and she looked frustrated. I stood up, threw my napkin onto my plate, and stormed upstairs to my room, my mother and father calling after me. I slammed the door behind me and ran my fingers through my hair, crying. I sat on my bed, my body shaking with anger.

I heard someone open the door and they came over to me, wrapping their arms around my shaking body. I looked up and saw Karen, her eyes filled with tears. She was crying too. "It'll be okay, baby girl. I promise," she whispered shakily, brushing the hair from my face. "We will get through this together." I nodded my head, feeling so numb and weak.

"I just thought that my own parents would take something such as this seriously." She sighed heavily, tightening her grip around me.

"I thought at least your father would," she mumbled into my hair. I nodded my head and wiped the back of my hand over my eyes, wiping away the tears that burned my eyes. Karen got off of my bed, looking upset. She sniffled. "I'm going to go have a word with your parents...see if I can make them listen." I nodded my head. She leaned over and planted a kiss on my forehead. She gave me a sad smile as she walked out of the room, silently closing the door behind her. I threw myself back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. I kicked off my slippers and crawled underneath my blankets.

I wrapped the comforter tightly around me, and continued to sob. Another person came into the room, and I opened my eyes, staring right at Angela, her face sad and pitiful. "I know you're pissed...but my mom is going to talk to them now and see if she can make them see to reason," she said.

"I already knew that." She nodded her head and walked over to me, sitting beside me on the bed. She rubbed my arm, and grasped my hand, squeezing it in comfort.

"I'm really sorry, Lindsay. I wish that there was something that I could do."

"What could you possibly do to make this situation ANY better, Angie? I'm not even sixteen yet, I'm pregnant, and my own parents don't even believe me that I am pregnant. What am I suppose to do?! I can't do anything, and neither can you." My voice was hard and shaky. Angela laid down, draping her arm over me.

"Just get some sleep, Lindsay. I promise that tomorrow things might be better." I closed my eyes and tried to sleep.
