My eyes open and I see the previously almost pitch black night sky lit with the moonlight. I must have slept in because I hear footsteps in the hallway outside my door. I roll over to look at my clock. 11:36 P.M.! That is so not like me to sleep in 2 hours late! Oh, well., I think to myself while staring at the ceiling. I begin to think about Heleios with his golden hair that seems to shine so bright against the darkness of our world.
After throwing on a crimson dress decorated with bows and black velvet kitten heels I pin the sides of my hair up with pins in the shape of small roses. I grab my bag and head out of the door. "I hope they're still serving breakfast", I say while rubbing my growling stomach.
I make my way for the kitchen when I stop in my tracks. "Heleios is probably hungry and wondering where I am!" Yolanda, a Siren Being, walks by me as I am saying this. She stops and looks at me. "Who's Heleios?", she asks with her smooth voice. "N-no one.", I say turning away from her. She continues walking down the hallway.
I breathe a sigh of relief. I decide to head to breakfast first since it's already 12 A.M. and it would be a waste to go get him without any food.
As I walk into the empty kitchen I see that there is still some food for me left. I say me because once again, I'm the only Human Being in Our World.
I grab two plates and start piling them with food. I speed walk past the kitchen doors and spot the Skeleton Being who agreed to giving me extra food from now on. We give each other nods. Before exiting the dining room entryway I look left and then right to see if anyone could see me carrying two heavy plates of food. The coast is clear and I hear no voices so I quickly make my way down the hall and up the staircase towards the guest hall where Heleios is staying.
I continue to speed walk for about 5 minutes, cutting the duration of time it would take to walk the hallways in half.
I finally arrive at the room Heleios is staying in and knock somewhat loudly. The door opens and a boy with an annoyed face appears.
"What took you so long? I'm starving!", he says. I place the plates on the coffee table. He immediately gobbles down the food. "I'm so sorry, Heleios!", I exclaim. "I must've been so exhausted from the day before that I woke up late." "Yeah, I can see that.", he chuckles to himself. He pushes the other plate toward me and says, "Well eat up. We've got a big day ahead of us...or ahead of you, I should say." without looking up from his plate. "Huh, what do you mean?", I ask. Ughh, not another adventure., I pray. "You didn't think we were going to be sneaking around the Mansion for long, did you?", Heleios asks sarcastically. "We are going to return to Earth!" I freeze.
"E..Ea..Earth?", I stutter. "I've never been there before!" I've never known anything else but Our World. The Phantom Mansion. Crescent Lake. Blood Rose Cemetery. Raull and Vendetta and Geni. What about all the spooky beings here that I know. Why is my chest pounding? "Luna! Look at me.", Heleios says softly. I gaze into his blue eyes. Oh, how they seem to flow and sparkle like the moonlight upon the lake at night. "Don't worry, you're going to be alright, and yes, you have.", he says with a smile. I suddenly am shaken up out of my trance. "What? What do you mean?", I ask. "I...have something I need to tell you.", he mutters while looking down at his plate. I think I just might faint with the amount of feelings I've never experienced before racing through my body. Heleios shoves the plates between us to the side, grabs my bronze hands into his sun-kissed ones, looks me in the eyes, and says slowly, "Luna, remember how I told you your parents brought you here when you were a toddler?" Oh, yeah., I think to myself. Amidst my astonishment at learning that other humans existed, I forgot to ask about it. "...Yes.", I tell him. "Well, there's a little more to the story... I'm sorry to tell you this, but your parents abandoned you. Raull found you, took you to this dimension, and protected you. I was sent here by the Creator to retrieve you and take you back to Earth. It is time.", he ends. "I...what!? Abandoned? Abandoned. Why would they do that?", I half ask Heleios. "I don't have an answer for that, unfortunately. However, we are to meet with Raull now. Perhaps you can ask him more about it.", Heleios says.
I'm still speechless. Suddenly, Heleios wraps his arms around me and squeezes softly. Is he trying to strangle me? I push him away. "What are you doing!?", I exclaim as I jump off the bed. "I'm trying to comfort you. Oh, my apologies! That was called a hug. It's what humans do to show affection and care for someone.", he states very matter of fact. I run into his arms. He lets out a small laugh as I hear his heartbeat against his warm body. I've never known this comfort that he speaks of, but I like it. "Perhaps this like thing isn't so bad after all.", I think.
My thoughts are interrupted when Heleios lets go and says, "I'll help you pack your things." I slowly get up and begin opening up the drawers of my dresser, wondering how I can fit my entire life inside a trunk.
