Lord

I breathed heavily, that attack had used up too much of my energy. The smoke that the impact had created was suddenly propelled outwards, both towards me and to the street behind us. The woman stood there, holding two swords, where had they come from?

She wasn't even phased by my attack!

As she raised her blade in my direction, I realized my mistake- she was much stronger than me. I used my speed to my advantage, I hadn't inherited my grandfather's unrealistic speed, but I was still faster than most, combined with the enhancing paracyte in my legs. My sword dissipated as I rushed forward, throwing all of my remaining energy into my fist.

She stepped to the side, catching my fist in her hand in the process.

"Who are you!?" The fear in my voice could be heard clearly now.

The woman gave an evil grin, one I envied, even in my current position."I suppose that since you won't be around long enough to comprehend it, I'll tell you." To emphasize her point, she crushed my fist using her one hand. I fell to my knees, but I didn't make a sound. I'd become accustomed to pain over the years.

"The name's Obsidia, and I've been sent to find a more suitable place for our empire's headquarters. Empress Heron believes that the current one on Arcadios is too close to the front lines."

She was sent here by Heron Vity?! I was so screwed.

"Now is there anything else?"

Her sword had already been poised to strike. I could tell that it was aimed right at my heart, and since I was without armor it would have no trouble accomplishing this.

Fawn

It was my turn now. A flash of light that was gone in an instant, caused a long handle to appear in my hands. I pushed down on the handle, causing a massive curved blade to unfold, making a scythe.

The woman dropped Lord, and turned to face me.

"I can tell by the way that you both summoned your weapons that you're using pure evolutionary energy, not dark matter."

"Yeah, so what? Everyone knows that the use of dark matter energy was banned 20,000 years ago; The only person that knows how to use it is Heron Vity."

Dark matter energy wasn't too much stronger than "evolutionary energy", or pure energy. But it was unpredictable, often corrupting the user, making them as evil as the energy itself. It regenerates incredibly fast, allowing the user to attack their opponent relentlessly, without tiring.

"Is that so?" I watched in horror as her swords changed color, becoming darker with every second.

I anticipated her next move, but her speed was still unbelievable. I caught both of her swords using my scythe, letting go of the lever, causing the blade to snap back and catch both of her swords. I pulled my scythe to the side, disarming her. Only incredibly powerful and immortal beings were compatible with pure dark matter, so how the hell had she gotten it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark matter was legendary, as only two people in the past 20,000 years have been able to use it properly. Lord Masquerade had harnessed the power of it to create his armour, his weapons, his ship, and more importantly, his legacy. Despite the ban, hundreds of power hungry people had tried and failed to use it, with only one had being successful. Heron Vity had become fascinated with the legends surrounding Lord Masquerade, and had begun to idolize him.

She eventually discovered that Masquerade had originally used evolutionary energy, not dark matter. He had only begun using it after he'd begun his galactic conquest. Heron's theory was that Masquerade was only able to use dark matter once he had killed thousands of people, and Heron tested her theory. She ruthlessly killed thousands of people, which tainted her life force. She learned that once her life force had become tainted, she could use dark matter energy, but she'd long lost her ability to feel sympathy, and could no longer use evolutionary energy.

When Masquerade's life force is transferred to another person, it will still be tainted; It will be able to harness dark matter energy, as long as they come into contact with it first...

Obsidia

I watched the girl's attack patterns closely, nothing noticeable. Then, the opportunity I'd been waiting for: a mistake. The girl had gotten tired of me dodging all of her attacks, and she had gotten careless, thinking that I would never make a move. The girl had swung her scythe at a rather awkward angle, and I took advantage of it. I moved my arm into the path of her scythe, and I watched as it bounced harmlessly off of my armor.

The girl lost her balance, falling backwards, but was surprised to find that I reached out to catch her hand. I could tell she was confused, and I softened my expression, making it seem like I was trying to help her. The look of confusion was replaced by one of sheer agony as I twisted my arm, and since her hand had already been in an awkward position, it completely shattered her wrist.

My next move was textbook, I dodged her poor attempt at a punch, and knocked her feet out from underneath her, watching as she lost what little balance she had regained. The entire time I had held onto her hand, which caused her to stop before she hit the ground. The weight she had involuntarily placed on her arm had resulted in a dislocated shoulder. Her screams had drawn a crowd of people, who had gotten out of their cars to view the event on their way to the city.

I looked at her lying on the ground, pitiful.

"What is your name?"

I could barely make out her answer through her clenched teeth. "It's Fawn."

"Well Fawn I'm sorry it had to come to this, but..."

I stepped on the middle digit of her arm, preventing her from moving it as I grabbed her forearm. As I pulled up on her forearm, and pressed down on the rest of her arm with my foot, a distinct tearing noise could be heard as tendons were stripped from the bone. For some odd reason, the bone that was now visible through her arm was a dark grey, and what's even more intriguing was how difficult it had been to snap it.

The girl's facial expression went blank as she realized what I'd done. When I moved my foot off of her arm, she saw that her arm had been torn off at the elbow. My hands dripping with her blood, I held her own arm out in front of her and it dripped some of her own blood onto her torso.

"Need a hand, Fawn?"

The girl had gone into shock, this was way too easy. It then occurred to me, I had completely forgotten about Lord. When I spun around, I found that he was gone, and then my mistake dawned upon me.

I knew what he was doing, and his capture was now my number one priority.
