Luke’s POV
“SCUM!” A man shouted, before throwing some rotten fruit at the group walking to the ships, me being one of them. I kept on walking, my head staying down, my eyes locked on the ground. I thought I was the youngest, I thought there was a certain age to be shipped off to this ‘new land’ or whatever, but there wasn’t, I saw a kid that was 14 years old, 14, and he seemed to scared out of his mind, but not as scared as me.
I was leaving my mother, that’s all I had, but she was sick, terribly, terribly sick, and that’s why I’m in this mess. I was just stealing from that old bag to help buy her medicine, that’s all, but now I’m here, about to be shipped off, with no hope of seeing her alive again.
With my head hung down I followed the line down into the small basement typed room, with just seats placed out evenly around the dark and rotting room. “Move it kid.” A husky voice said, pushing me out of the way to walk to the back, me stumbling over, but being caught by a pair of muscled arms. Now firmly on my feet, I turned to see a pair of brown eyes looking directly at me, a fatherly feel about him. “You okay?”
I nodded, before sitting down, him sitting next to me, completely and utterly unprepared for what I was about to endure.
(A/N I know it usually took months for them to travel but let’s say it takes a few weeks yep?)
Sophia’s POV
*2 Weeks Later*
I stared out of my high balcony, my blonde hair whipping at my face slightly. I didn’t expect the weather to differ so drastically. One minute it’s hot, next it’s cold. I don’t understand it one bit. I sighed and stepped back into my room, that now had a bit of life to it, but it still wasn’t my room back home. That room was amazing, it was mine, but I’ll never see it again, just like everything else I used to own.
That Abigale girl still doesn’t like me, that whole family is icy and cold, mother and father had tried their best to talk to them, but they just ignore them. Mother claims they’ll come around, but to me, they’re just snobbish, self centred twats. With that thought, I excited my room and walked slowly down the swirling staircase, to be met by mother and father, who seemed to be speaking in hushed whispers, hoping no one would hear.
But I always hear everything, I need to know everything, it’s just who I am.
I fell back up against the wall, slowing my breath so I was unheard. “-We can’t stay if those scum are coming here.” Mother said, an obvious discomfort in her tone. “I know Victoria, but what choice do we have? Besides, they won’t be in the house, they’ll just be working around here, they won’t be bothering us at all.” Father replied, as comforting as ever. There was a silence, before mother spoke again. “Ben..” She trailed off, my breath hitching in my throat. They must know I’m here, I thought, quickly hurrying back up the staircase.
There was a clang, before I fell down on my knees, probably ripping my dress in the process. I heard a curse. “Baise.” I heard someone say in a familiar accent, before I was pulled to my feet, my face flustered. It was William, with a tea tray at his feet, the contents of whatever he was carrying all over his white shirt. “What?” I asked, his blue eyes widening. “What?” I stepped away from him abruptly, realizing how close we were standing.
“What did you just say, you know, the ‘vaise’ or whatever?” He laughed, before reaching down to pick up the tray, now level with me again. “Etes-vous sûr que vous voulez savoir?” I raised a thin eyebrow, now wondering if he was even speaking a language at all. He must have figured I was still confused. “I said ‘Do you really want to know?’” I nodded, before he leant down to my ear, whispering a word that as a Christian I swore I would never say. I backed away slightly, my mouth gaping open in shock. “How dare you say that in front of a lady?” He shrugged. “Well in my defence you didn’t understand so it really wasn’t that bad.”
I was about to reply when a certain grumpy blonde rounded the corner, her grey eyes landing on the scene in front of her. A cruel smile formed on her lips as she picked up her red skirts and walked slowly over to us. Will instantly flinched away as she reached us, his eyes darting everywhere but hers. “Well, what do we have here?” Abigale said, her gaze landing on me. “Mr and soon to be Mrs Price will not like this William, isn’t this the third spill this week?” William stayed quiet, and I guess there was something going on that I didn’t know about.
“Maybe you should go powder your face for your boyfriend Miss Hughes,” Will suddenly chuckled softly. “But he left you didn’t he? For that orphaned girl down the road that was carrying his child, shame that, he was quite a charmer, abusive, but a charmer.” The look he was given made me back away slightly, her face going red quickly. Without another word, she picked up the remaining tea that was now cold, and threw it in his face.
He stayed where he was, before he reached down again to pick up the broken cutlery again, me about to kneel down and help him, but his hand stopped me. “I think your father wants you,” He said, his eyes locked on the pieces below him. “He asked me to come get you.” I nodded slowly, not wanting to leave him, but going anyway, only to be met by my father’s worried eyes. “Sophia, we need to talk.”
