The day was long and hard. I tried to spend time with Kyle, but he mostly walked in silence. Sometimes I would turn to talk to him and he would have been staring at me. Our eyes would meet for a moment, then he would look away. It wasn't helping that we were both loosing a lot of sleep. Both of us hadn't slept well one night since we got on the blasted ship. I hated the ship. Nothing good had happens since we got on it. Worst of all is that my best friend was slowly slipping away from me. I thought I would die if that happened. I wanted to hear him talk, see him look at me with caring dark green eyes. That didn't happen though. The only thing he did say was "I heard that we are heading for some ice bergs." This made me shutter, because if there was one thing that I hated the most, it was the cold.
I was frightened to go to my room that night. I didn't want to wake up screaming or crying like I had every night, but when I laid down that didn't happen. I closed my eyes and had a dreamless sleep. I didn't awake once that night, until I felt the bump.
It wasn't large, just a little bump. That didn't stop me from being concerned. I hastily got dressed and was about to leave the room when I noticed something. My father wasn't there. "Mum, where's Father?" I asked because for the first time I noticed she was awake too. "He went to walk around on the lower decks! Oh I wish he was here. Bonnie go try to figure out what happened, I'll try to look for Father. Don't wake your brother."
"Yes Mum." I said while leaving the room. While shutting the door quietly, I heard footsteps coming down the hallway. Not very heavy and not to light. "Bonnie?" a voice said while coming into view. "I'm over here Kyle," I said while waving. "What was that bump?"
"I don't know, but how about we find out."
"Come on let's go. I'd say we ask the captain first."
"Ya. I'm sure he will recognize us." We left and soon found ourselves at the his door. I was just about to knock, when the first lifeboat dropped.
Kyle quickly banged on the door, because I couldn't move. When the captain answered he looked highly distraught. "Ah, if it isn't the young miss and her rescuer." We both blushed. "What is wrong with the ship?!?" Kyle demanded. The second lifeboat dropped. "Children, the ship is sinking."
It couldn't be happening. How could it be happening? It was the Titanic, the only unsinkable ship in the world! I was to stunned to speak. More people were starting to come out now, hundreds. It was the captain who spoke first. "Children, you need to get on a lifeboat. NOW! There is not enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship I'm afraid. Please go." Obediantly, we started walking over to the lifeboats. We had almost arrived when I stopped suddenly. "Apollo," I screamed. "He's still in our room!"
"We have to go get him!" Kyle said, but I was already running. He soon caught up to me though. It took for what seemed like forever to get to my room. Lots of people were scrambling to the lifeboats now. We were having to fight the current. When we finally arrived, I tried to open the door. It wouldn't open, and I knew. The door was locked.
I started to cry while looking for anything to help me get the door open the blasted door! Then I heard something, like our door was cracking. I whipped around and saw Kyle. He was kicking the door and it was actually coming open. Kyle finally kicked it open and I rushed in, still crying, but thanking Kyle. Apollo was standing in his crib crying almost as much as I was when I scooped him up. Kyle came in and grabbed two things and put them in his coat pockets before rushing me to go out.
We ran fast until I was out of breath. He offered to take Apollo and I didn't refuse. He was a heavy baby. We ran again, all the way to the lifeboats. They were filling up fast nowand there was only a few left. We went to one that was close to us. Kyle got in with Apollo and I was about to get in when I was stopped.
The crewman said "No more people can get on miss." I looked at Kyle who was right in front of me. A woman offered to hold Apollo for him. I ran and hugged him. The tears were coming back now. They started to stream down my face. Kyle's smooth hand touched my face and gentely lifted it. I noticed that his eyes were red too. Kyle was looking at me with those dark green eyes again. Sweet and loving eyes, the kind that I could melt into. Kyle pressed his lips against mine and kissed me. That wasn't what surprised me the most though. It was that I kissed him back.
Time itself seemed to stop. We kissed for what seemed like forever before Kyle pulled away. "You get on. I'll find another way." he whispered. His forehead pressed against mine. "No Kyle, you stay, please for me. I love you." I pulled away from him just as the lifeboat was starting to move, and I watched him until I couldn't anymore.
Things were happening at a rapid pace now. The boat was now tilting and I could see what we hit. A huge iceberg. I frantically looked around, trying to find a boat. All of them were full now though. I heard people screaming. I realized that it was my night-mare all over again, only I couldn't wake up from this one. What was I going to do? That's when I saw that people were jumping.
The mighty ship was highly tilting now. I reached the edge of the boat and looked down. It was a huge drop. Could I do it? Would I survive if I did? Thoughts were racing now. I climbed on top of the rail, and I jumped.
