Chapter 16

Lexi's POV

Charles got up and placed a chaste kissed on my lips. He kissed me I can't actually believe it. Charles. Kissed. Me. The maid...technically not. Next thing I knew he was out of sight and I was still as a statue trying to understand what happened to me and him. Was it just an accident or did he want to.  His is hurting my head and I really want to know but I feel like our relationship would change and I don't want it affected at all.

'Hey can I sit there ' someone tapping me on the shoulders turned and saw a man. He was kind of handsome and he had a sweet smile on his face.

'Sure it's free and it's yours.' I replied

'Thank you kind maiden. He said. And next thing a blush creeper up my face but I guess it was nothing.

'Why you sitting all alone by yourself when there is a dance going on.'

'I wouldn't fit and I could ask the same of you aren't a noble that should be mingling with a potential wives or something.'

'Rosey you assume to quickly. I have just lost my brother so I am not looking for a wife.' He said.

'Oh I am sorry for your loss. He must had a big influence on who you are today isn't it.'

'Yes he made many decisions on his life that were wrong by in the end he was a good man who had a lot of faith for his people and God.'

'People. What was he the Pope or a prince.'

'He was the King of Navarre and Prince of Blood.'

'Your protestant from what I hear Navarre is a protestant country yes?'

'You are correct it is and it has always been a threat to France through mine and my brothers claim. You see I am Louis of Condé and I am next in line for the throne of France after the Valois.'

'Why you here in France? Do you actually want to get rid of then that badly?'

'I was once here in court when King Francis once ruled the lands but haven't been here since. I sympathize with Catholics and I have no problems with it but I have a problem with the Valois.'

'Ancient rivalry perhaps or another?'

'Some but that's not the case you see a few years me and brother kind of caused some trouble for the monarchy especially with Francis' wife and her ladies in waiting.'

'How does Her Majesty, Queen Mary come into this?'

'We had an intimate relationship which occurred after some rather disastrous events which caused her to drift from her husband. Thus lead her to my arms but it came to an end when she lied and destroyed the coup I had organised against King Francis. She stabbed me in the gut, literally. Then I was blamed for the abduction on her stepson and the King's bastard I was sentenced to an execution but alas escaped and that was the last time I have been in French Court.'

'That is quite the story but Mary and you intimate can't believe that never got out. Besides why did you even try and get rid of the Valois?'

'For Mary. I fell in love with her and when you love someone you'll do anything to be with them even your life. Do you understand me?'

'I have never been  in love before but I get what you mean I would die for my siblings if anything were to happen to them especially my twin Adam I can't live without my other half.'

'Your a twin huh? Very rare to come across one.'

'I am a very special person.' He laughed at me and I joined in.
