Naruto’s P.O.V.
Kakashi stood in front of us, looking nervous in front of the Hokage and the other sensei’s that sat with him at the table. It’s a new look for him, considering how he usually looks so cool and calm. Sasuke stood behind me, his eyes on the ground in a permanent glare and his fists stuffed in his pockets.
The Hokage sat, his glasses at the tip of his nose as he read over our report.
He glanced up and his eyebrows furrowed.
“Where’s my daughter? Did she run off?”
Sasuke gulped behind us as I looked everywhere but at the old man.
“Sir, with all due respect, we’d like to talk to you about your daughter in private…” Kakashi trailed off, his voice grim.
He raised a curious eyebrow, but did as he was asked and took us all into his office after excusing the other sensei’s. Sakura asked for leave to go home and rest, leaving just Sasuke and I with Kakashi. The Hokage sat behind his desk, sticking his pipe between his lips and motioning for us to sit on the two chairs in front of his desk.
None of us sat down.
“So, what did she do this time?” he asked.
Kakashi stuffed his hands in his pockets.
“Sir, are you aware your daughter is a mass murderer?”
His eyes widened, but then he chuckled.
“What kind of joke is that, Kakashi?” he chuckled.
Kakashi didn’t laugh or even stutter; he remained grim and cold. I could feel my throat tighten as I realized how hard on the Hokage this is going to be.
Kakashi suddenly reached into his back pocket where his perverse novel usually is, but instead, I noticed it was a Bingo Book. He flipped through it in silence, then set it in front of the Hokage, the picture of Lucy clear to see.
The Hokage slowly put on his eye glasses and picked up the book, his forehead creasing in confusion.
“… Kakashi, this doesn’t automatically mean this is my daughter. Sure, the resemblance is clear, but it could be anyone.”
“It’s her, sir… She confirmed it during a confrontation with Zabuza, the Demon of the Mist. Apparently they had met in the past and he revealed her as being the girl that had… killed off the Village Hidden in the Oleander.” Sasuke spoke up.
Oh, so he isn’t comatose.
He went silent, studying the picture in front of him.
“Where is she then…?”
“I’m afraid she ran away in the middle of the night to follow Zabuza.” Kakashi spoke up.
“And you didn’t think to stop her?”
I’d never heard such a harsh tone from the old man. It caused me to wince.
“I did, Sir. But even if I tried to use force, she would easily throw me to the side… she isn’t human, Sir. She doesn’t know what she is either… but she has this invincible strength.”
The Hokage put his pipe down and rested his head in his hands, looking suddenly a hundred times older. The poor man… I can’t help but feel bad for him. This was a shock for us sure; but that’s his daughter. Adopted or not, he raised her.
“I… I always knew my baby girl had been hiding something from me… but nothing like this…”
I can’t just sit here! That’s my best friend…
