Chapter Four: Patience

Friday came and went since work was light and I really wasn't in the mood for Mr. Booty call anymore.

I picked up dinner and a movie for myself since Reggie had already cancelled date night, because he was working late again.

I didn't even care because I wanted to make it an early night anyway, since tomorrow I'd be out shopping with the girls.

Our shopping days are always fun, but extremely exhausting.

I called in my order to my favorite Chinese spot Golden Star, "Vegetable fried rice w/ a dollar extra shrimp, no onions, hold the bean sprouts, "I said as I placed my order for pick-up.

It had everything I like in it, even down to the carrots and broccoli, so all I needed now was to pick up some wine and hit the Redbox for a cheap movie and this was my Friday night.

For most people, that wouldn't be enough, but all I wanted to do was relax with myself, by myself and to myself and I would be alright with it too before dozing off I'm sure probably during the movie.

I got home; the house was quiet just like I wanted.

I checked the messages, threw the mail to the side and went to take a long hot shower.

In-between heating up my Chinese food, I popped in the movie and went through my mail, meaning bills for the month.

As the movie was starting, my phone started ringing and the ringtone already told me who it was.

Not feeling like even coming up with an excuse, I sent him straight to voicemail and turned the phone off so I could enjoy my Friday night, alone.

I must have fallen asleep on the couch during the movie, because it startled me when I heard the excessive movements and noise coming from the kitchen.

Reggie must have come home while I was asleep; I got up and walked to the kitchen noticing the door was still open. I started to panic until he started speaking.

"Oh, boo I just came home for a second, I have to run back out and drop E off at home. I was just coming to check on you first since you didn't answer when I called."

"Funny, I didn't feel you wake me up to say you were home, but okay. I'll just see you in the morning I'm going to lie in the bed now and go back to sleep." I said with a tone of irritation.

He didn't even press the issue, which led me to believe something really wasn't right, but I just brushed it off and went back to bed not in the mood for an argument.

I heard the front door close as I headed to the bedroom turning on my phone to set my alarm to get up in the morning. After I watched him pull back off out the window, I got in the bed and drifted back to sleep.

It didn't even feel like an hour had passed before I heard my phone going off, knowing it was the alarm, I grabbed the phone to hit the snooze but heard vague sounds of the shower turning off in the bedroom bathroom. Seconds later, Reggie came out in his towel.

"Good morning sweetheart, you were sleeping hard when I came in last night. You must have had a long day at work, huh?

" I answered sort of suspicious sounding, "Nah, not really, I guess I was just tired." I couldn't prove if he had just come in or not because I was truly knocked out and didn't even realize how much time had passed so I decided to let it go for now and make small talk about his plans for the day.

"How many people did you invite for tomorrow? I really need some kind of count because I'm going to pick up some stuff today while I'm out and really don't want to go overboard if it's going to just be a few of us."

I don't know, just a couple of guys from work who may bring someone, and the usual Jay and Eric. Just get whatever, and put it on my card, he said handing it to me but pulled back. Better yet, I have some cash on me, use this and bring me back the change. I gladly accepted and smiled saying, "Picture that one".

He looked as if he was getting dressed to go somewhere so I questioned a little but left the conversation as it was "really unanswered to say the least". We had been bickering a lot lately, and I just really wasn't in the mood for it, so I grabbed my phone to call up the girls to check our plans to see if we were still doing brunch before shopping.

Unique answered on the first ring, "Wassup girl, you on your way over?

" No, I'm just getting up and was debating on fixing me some breakfast before I took a shower but thought about brunch plans and figured let me call your slow butt to make sure you was up and if you needed help cooking. You know you be in your own zone over there with hubby and kids.

"Girl, I'm good! My hubby hit me off some good this morning I got up and made him breakfast, and the kids chocolate chip waffles! But I thought Megan said we should try Friday's new brunch they started for Saturdays and Sundays? You didn't get the text last night?

"Nah, I haven't even checked my messages yet, I had the phone off last night so I could chill and when I turned it back on, I still had it on vibrate, but that's cool, what time we rolling out?" I asked, okay with the idea because when we all got together at someone's house, shopping never happened afterwards and I really needed to get things done today.

We meeting at Megan's house in about an hour since she lives closer to Friday's that way we can all ride together and hit the mall afterwards.

"Sounds good to me, see you soon" I said before hanging up and checking my missed texts from last night.

Sure enough, I'd missed it along with a few others but I headed to take a shower to get dressed so I wouldn't be late. I was starving because I hardly ate any of my vegetable rice last night. I had seen the Friday's flyer come out at the beginning of the summer and been meaning to check it out so the choice was a good one.
