Chapter Six: A Woman's Intution

The next morning we woke up around ten, and started to get the house and the yard straight for later. The cookout was to start around three or four, so we still had plenty of time.

I started the macaroni and cheese prep and thawed out the chicken and fish so I could fry them.

Janice was bringing the desserts since she was the pastry chef and everyone just loved her baking.

Unique was bringing the pasta salad, seafood salad and potato salad since those were her specialties while Megan was simply bringing herself and a couple bottles of wine since she couldn't boil hot water without burning it.

Angie couldn't make it since she was called in for a double shift at the hospital.

The guys were responsible for the alcohol and beer as usual.

Everything seemed to be coming along as I started going over the foods with Reggie out loud. He loved when I got into the housewife mode planning and cooking and smiling while doing it. He put on some music and it was really starting to feel like it was going to be a good day. We were working together so well and it really made we miss these moments of happiness feeling so together.

But something still just didn't seem right, but I decided to go with the flow and take it for what it was. Before we knew it, it was one-thirty and we only had an hour or so to get dressed before people would start to arrive.

After being in the closet for 10 minutes, I decided to put on this cute springy multi-colored sun-dress I'd brought from the mall over a month ago with solid royal blue flip flops. Reggie's cologne was intoxicating as he walked past me coming out the bathroom in nothing but his boxers smelling really familiar.

Mesmerized for a moment, I complemented him and asked was he trying something new. "Dang, boy you smell good!" I touched him playfully.

His dirty mind always went somewhere else of course as he replied, "and I taste good too!"

He started putting on his clothes and headed out to start the grill up since he said Jay and his sister was on the way already. I went to check out the macaroni and cheese for the last time and felt it was to my liking after a quick taste test. I turned the stove off and set it on top of the stove to cool.

I could smell the charcoal now burning smelling sum good outside on the patio. I started frying the chicken and left some out for Reggie to put on the grill. After I laid out the burgers and hotdogs on a tray for him, I started to take the stuff out the fridge for the toss salad when I heard the doorbell ringing.

"Hey sis," E greeted me with a hug as I opened the door wider noticing that Nicole was with him. I just gave her a look that said I will deal with your later so she knew I already knew about what happened the other day. She spoke and walked past me following E through the den to the patio where Reggie was.

I went back to putting the salad together, when this time I heard knocking and I already knew who that was since nobody knocks but Jay crazy self.

I opened the door for him, and he greeted me with a hug, followed by Shar, Reggie's sister. Jay and I caught up for a brief moment then I told him Reggie and Eric was out back.

Shar walked in the kitchen with me asking if she could help with anything while putting down the deviled eggs she brought over. I grabbed the tray from the kitchen with the hotdogs and hamburgers and told her she could finish putting the salad in the bowl and I would be right back.

I headed out to check on Nicole because I just really didn't trust her. Even though she was Reggie's brother girlfriend, she still had this way of laughing and always touching on my man I just didn't like.

"Hey mayne, when did you get here?" I heard Reggie say always happy to see his best friend.

They dapped each other up and I noticed Nicole over there giggling as usual like everything the guys did was so damn funny. The girl really just gets under my skin with her fake accent and that I'm better than you attitude.

"You're welcome baby," I said in a sexy innocent voice while leaning over to kiss Reggie after handing him the tray of burgers and hotdogs. He kissed me back, then started grabbing my hand as I walking off which I was so glad he did because it added to my affects I wanted Nicole to see. I turned the music up as I walked through the den heading back into the kitchen with Shar.

"So girl, how have you been? It feels like it's been forever since ya'll been over." I said while motioning Shar to hand me the deviled eggs so I could put them in the fridge for now.

I know it's been a little rocky lately, trust me girl it has for us too, but just know there are better days ahead. You two love each other, and I don't know two better people as connected as ya'll.

She laughed and tried to lighten up a bit saying, "Maybe, you're right. I'm going to just enjoy the moment of us being out together with friends and family and have a good time."

"That's the spirit," I said while hugging her.

During our mini pow-wow moment my cell phone started ringing and it was Janice. I figured she was outside so I just started towards the door so I could let her in.

I swung open the door ready to head out and help her when instead I was stopped in my tracks by a familiar face with his hands up in the air ready to knock.

I stuttered the words out slowly, "What arrr-ee you doing here?"

I quickly tried grabbing the door to close it, but it was too late.

Janice was walking up to the porch and Reggie was walking in the patio door saying open the door for his co-worker who was on the way.

My mouth hung wide open, as I tried to gain the little composure back I had left in me. It was no use, I was stuck in his mesmerizing presence, and my feet felt embedded into the concrete like quick sand, like oil pouring into the grass killing all the land. My heart was racing, jumping beats it seemed. I couldn't even speak yet my eyes wanted to freaking scream.

Although, it was only seconds that passed by, it felt more like hours as I felt all the attention was on me and I just knew I was caught in my deceptive act.

A thousand different scenarios started playing in my mind as I thought they both had set me up because if they knew each other Reggie must have known about our affair or he was there trying to be friends with Reggie to gain his trust just to get to me or possibly one that I just hoped was not true as it would crush me to my soul.

It couldn't possibly be?

I sat there daydreaming, watching as Janice waddled her way up to the door almost certain now she was here with him.

Could this be?

Could Janice unseen baby's father be my Denzel, my Iris Elba, my TI?

They did just so happen to arrive at the same time. I started to panic and gasp for air as I realized I had to say something quick.

Just as I was about to speak, I heard his voice, making me wetter with each word.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Terrance," he said so strong and believable I would have thought he was being genuine as well if I wasn't actually sleeping with him.

I knew this day had been off for a reason. The universe was trying to send me signs all day, I could feel it. They say a woman's intuition is as strong as a pregnancy nose, yet I chose to go with the flow, damn that was the wrong road. Here I am thinking the drama would be on Nicole today, but my world just got turned upside down. I needed a drink and fasttt!!!!!
