 CHAPTER 3

“Unanswered Questions”

“Blake babe; you’re going to be late if you don’t get going!” Cindy yelled up the stairs to her husband.

“What time is it?” he yelled back.

“Twenty to nine!” she yelled back at him.

“I still got time. Work is only seven minutes away.” Blake said coming down the stairs.

“Do you want some breakfast?” she asked tucking a stray blonde curl behind her ear. When he got to the bottom step she leaned up and gave him a peck on the lips.

“It’s okay, I’m not really hungry. I’ll just grab a cup of coffee at work.” He says walking past her to the door. “I’ll see you after work. Bye!”

Once outside, he started the car and was about to drive away when he heard a tap on his window. He turned to see his wife standing outside his door.

“Hey, What’s up?” he asked rolling down the window.

“Nothing, I wanted to say I love you and have a great day. You never leave without saying I love you. Is everything alright?” she asked.

“Yeah everything’s fine. I love you too. I’ll see you later okay?” he says. She smiled and waved goodbye as he drove off.

He was lying of course; he wasn’t fine. Ever since he saw Elizabeth a week ago, he hadn’t been able to sleep. Thoughts of her plague his every waking moment and even when he was asleep; she was in his dreams, always there but never reachable. It was driving him crazy. He knew Cindy was getting worried because he rarely ate and he felt slightly guilty. He loves his wife but he knew where his heart lay. Cindy was his best friend since they were kids; and when things went sour with Elizabeth, she had been there to comfort him. They’d gotten married because he felt it was the right thing to do and he thought it would make getting over Elizabeth easier but it didn’t. He knew he loved her but it wasn’t anything like the love he had shared with Elizabeth. No one had ever come close to what he had with that woman. The passion and fire they had shared in their love was indescribable and regardless how much time had pass, it still burned deep within him.

He had hoped to see her again but she hadn’t been around his work since that day she ran into him. It was like she was avoiding him he thought suspiciously. Either way he was going to find a way to see her again and this time he had a plan.

“Hey, it’s lunch time, were going to Senior Tacos. You coming?” Greg asked sticking his head into Blake’s office.

“No man; I got stuff to do. You all go ahead.” He replied shuffling papers on his desk.

“What stuff?” Greg asked

“Just stuff.” He said avoiding Greg’s eyes.

“Elizabeth stuff?” Greg asked.

Blake’s head snapped up in surprise, “Wh..What?”

“I heard you were going to the commander’s house. So I figured Elizabeth is the stuff you’re talking about.” Greg said putting air quotes around stuff.

“Who told you I was going to the commander’s house?” he asked suspiciously.

“Carlos.”

“Go figure.” “I have some paperwork to go over with the commander and he said it’ll be best if we went to his house to do it and that way we can also have lunch.” He said. Which was partially true; the commander did suggest his house. Of course he did drop the hint that it would be more efficient for lunch also but no one needed to know that.  “And Elizabeth might not even be there; so see? Completely innocent.” Blake finished, going back to shuffling his papers.
