CHAPTER SIX

“A 'little' Big Suprise”

Elizabeth looked at the display window wondering whether that dress on the mannequin would look good on her. She was at the mall with her best friend Sara and sister Lexi shopping for a birthday gift for James. Thinking of James she looked around wondering where her sister had walked off with her son.

“James wanted some yogurt so Lexi took him.” Sara said seeing her look around. “So, have you talked to Blake since the dinner party?” she asked

“No it’s only been a week since he was at my house but I’m getting really tired of that subject.” Liz sighed as she continued staring at the display window. It seems like all she ever hears now-a-days is her relationship with Blake. The only person who seem to be in the dark with it all was John and thankfully so. John knew a little of her past as far as it didn’t work out with James’ father.

She had been living with her father in Amsterdam for almost two years when they met. Her father owned the biggest real estate firm out there and had helped John’s dad find the perfect villa for him and his wife. They invited her father over for a celebration dinner at their new home and because he didn’t want to go alone; her dad had dragged her along as well. It was that night that she had met John. He was home from Iraq for two weeks of leave before he had to go back. He had asked her out but she refused thinking about James who was a year and a half at the time. She was afraid that whoever she dated would despise her son but when she had told John; he was quite alright with it. Since then he had been an amazing father to her son. She had briefly mentioned that James’ father was not anywhere in the picture when he had asked. He never pressured her for details and so he has no idea Blake is James’ father. However the striking resemblance James had to Blake was hard to ignore. She hoped he didn’t make any connections before she could tell him, if she can muster up the courage to.

“How long are you going to avoid the subject then?” “The longer you wait the worst the consequences later on down the road it’s going to be for you.” She warned.

“Ugh! I don’t know! I’m spineless when it comes to that man. I can’t think or speak for that matter whenever were in the same room. The few times I’ve talked to him we almost ended up kissing. I can’t do that to John.” She blew out her breath puffing out her cheeks.

“Well I suggest you grow a spine within the next twenty seconds.” Sara informed her.

“Why in the next twenty seconds?” Liz looked at her friend confused.

“Well, because a certain tall blonde hottie is heading over here.” She said looking over Liz’s shoulder.

Liz turned around and groaned; coming towards them was no other then Blake himself followed closely behind by Greg and Carlos. He had a huge grin on his face and her heart fluttered at the sight. This town is way too small she thought; wondered if she were to duck into the nearest store, they would notice her sudden disappearance. She was contemplating the idea of a quick escape when she heard running from her left. James was running straight for her laughing his head off followed closely behind by her sister trying to keep up. Panic rose in her chest, it was like watching a head on train collision about to happen and there was nothing she could do. Just as Blake step in front of her, James barreled into her legs knocking her straight into him. Taken by surprise, Blake caught her by her waist just as she was about to fall on the floor; ending with her draped backwards on his arm and their faces inches from each other. She felt his breath fan her face as they stared at each other. And for the second time she found herself staring into his gray eyes completely mesmerized. She forgot why she had ended up this close to him but it didn’t seem to matter as her brain cease to function.
