Chapter 18: The Rescue

The Realm Heroes parked their transportation at the edge of the swamp. The Chima Heroes rode their Speedorz with the exception of Mottrot. Danny flew with Robin. The remainder of the Realm Heroes rode with the Chi in the cargo area of Mottrot's Mammoth stomper. Everyone dismounted and Eris grabbed the Chi.

"How do we get the Chi to the Croc fort?" Sir Fangar asked.

"I thought of that," Cragger smirked as he pulled out some mini swamp boats.

Eris turned toward Danny. "You two know what to do, right?" Both Robin and Danny nodded.

"We'll signal you when we're back here," Robin said, passing out communicators.

"Perfect," Clay said, "Let's load up and go get Laval."

Everyone with the exception of Danny and Robin boarded the swamp boats and zoomed off toward the Croc fort. Danny and Robin took flight, intangible and invisible.

Laval sighed. Crominus had sent a ransom note to the Lions about maybe an hour ago. Laval really had no idea how long he had been in the Croc fort. Perhaps about twelve hours. The strange dreams he had were certainly not helping his judging of time. Laval sighed. Who was he kidding? His father wouldn't break his rules even if Laval wasn't a prisoner. Would he?

Laval sighed. "Hurry up guys, before I do something stupid or I lose my sanity, whichever comes first," he said into the darkness.

The boats arrived at the Croc fort. Crominus came out to greet them. "So, Lagravis sends the Realm Rat pack to me? I'm disappointed," he complained.

"Hey! We're not rats," Farran shouted.

"We have your Chi," Woriz growled, "Now give us Laval."

"Let's see it," Crominus said.

"Hand me a Golden Chi," Cragger ordered, stepping out of the boat. Eris handed him one of the orbs. Cragger grinned deviously as he approached his father. When he was just slightly beyond an arm's length from his father, Cragger dropped the Chi. "Whoops!" He gasped.

KABOOM! A powerful explosion rocked the fort. Smoke filled every passageway in the fort. King Crominus flew back into the smoke. Croc guards stumbled for weapons in the dense fog. 

"Go! Go! Go!" Eris yelled as she Chi-ed up with the real Chi.

"For Chima and for the Realms!" Cragger yelled, following her. The rest of the Chima Heroes Chi-ed up as well, then everyone charged into the smoke. Swords and other weapons clanged as warriors struggled to tell who was friend and who was foe. The Realm Heroes didn't have quite as hard of a time telling who was friend or foe, but they knew they had to buy as much time as possible for Danny and Robin to get Laval.

Danny and Robin were watching patiently in the trees when the Golden Chi exploded. That was their signal to get in. Danny grabbed Robin and the duo flew invisible and intangible through the hazy fray. Fortunately, the dungeons weren't quite as smoky as the main levels. Robin and Danny checked every cell. No sign of Laval anywhere. At that moment they heard a blood-curdling scream. Both boys looked at each other.
