Chapter 2: loosing a second mother

When Lucy's mom had left and Natsu had taken Lucy to his house, he set everything up to make Lucy feel at home with him. His dad was away on business so they had the whole house to themselves. Natsu brought Lucy up to his bedroom because it was the cleanest spot in the whole house. Lucy was crying and Natsu just let her let it all out on his shoulder. She complained "why does my father have to be a drunk, why does he always make mom feel like a complete piece of shit because of his past job". Natsu was silent for he couldn't put his words together. "He use to always be there with a smile and love me and mom but now it's only anger and hate". Natsu look into her teary eyes and felt the pain as if it was his own. Suddenly He moved closer and hugged her. With a soft voice he said "I'm here for you Lucy, since the first day we met, I knew I would always be there to protect you and care for you". "We're going to get through this together" he continued. Lucy's tears stopped flowing when Natsu spoke. She believed every word he said and she knew with him she could actually be happy. They laid in Natsu's bed for hours that night. a movie played in the background. Lucy was laying on his chest while he slowly stroked her hair. She had fallen asleep to the sweet touch of Natsu's hand. She was glowing and He was happy to see her sleep so peacefully but he needed to do something before he could follow her. Natsu slid out of the bed while Lucy rolled over to adjust. He snuck out of the room trying not to make any noise. He left his house and went to Lucy's. The front door was cracked open, so he helped himself in. Inside he found Lucy's father asleep on the couch with a vodka bottle in his hand, cradling it like a baby. Natsu was sick at the sight. He couldn't believe he could sleep soundlessly after what he just done. He ignored the thought in his head and continued up the stairs finding his way into Lucy's room. He picked up a random gym bag with their high school name on it. He stuffed the bag with clothes and different accessories that he thought were important to Lucy. After he was finished gathering everything up, he decided it was time to leave the house but on the way out he had noticed a voice message was left on the answering machine blinking red number one. he decided to listen to it.

Natsu hit play and it spoke, "Hello, this is levy from the magnolia hospital and... Umm... There was a car accident and Mrs. Heartfillia was involved, we really need someone to come down here and make a positive ID on the body, anytime is okay".

Natsu's stomach dropped and he couldn't believe what he just heard. Natsu ran out of the house and back into his to grab his car keys and he was on his way to the hospital. He drove 25 mph over the speed limit and parked like a complete asshole in the lot. He sprinted in to the main entrance. He was a complete mess because the tears in his eyes were firing up.
" IM HERE TO SEE MY MOM" he screamed. The lady said what's the name and he mentioned Heartfillia and their faces dropped so quickly. "Wait just a moment son" the nurse said. She ran off getting a doctor and they walked back together. The doctor said "come with me". Natsu rushed behind the doc until they got to a room. "Are you sure you want to do this" the doc asked. Natsu trying to hold back tears answered with "yes". The doc opened the door and he continued to walk in. As soon as natsu seen the face he dropped to his knees knowing that was Mrs. Heartfillia. The only female role model he had in his life, a women who was always there for the past ten years. He dropped to his knees crying and the thoughts went through his mind, "How am I going to tell Lucy this, she'll never come back from this". The thoughts carried on while he sat on the floor crying. The doc gave him some time, knowing he knew and cared for Mrs. Heartfillia. Natsu cried for 15 minutes until he could stand up again. He walked out of the room and thanked the doctor for letting him see her. He continued back to his car and turned it on. The radio started to play "I'll be missing you" by P Diddy. Natsu could only wipe the tears out of his eyes as they continued to fall. He Knew that breaking the news to Lucy would be 10x as worst as his reaction and he was dreading his return home.
