(Chapter 4)
"Coraaaaaaa It's time for school!" Alex yelled excitedly from outside my room.
"Dad do I have to?" I whined, it seemed as if I had just fallen asleep.
"It's the first day! You can't miss the first day!" He replied.
I groaned loudly, I hated it but he was right. It had been a month since the whole 'damn you Rian for bringing up school' thing first came up. Since then, Alex and Jack had spent numerous hours on searching for the 'perfect school'. If only there was such a thing. Mayday parade as the principles, Pierce the Veil for Spanish class, Of Mice & Men for English, Bring me the horizon for geography, All time low for gym (I better get a 'no-gym' pass from them in my imaginary school), My chemical romance for science, and Blink 182 for math.
I let out a laugh at my thoughts before getting out of bed and getting ready.
Since today was the first day I obviously had to set my standards. Pulling on a black tank top and ripped black skinny jeans, I figured I'll at least attract the right crowd. Not some bitchy girls or douchebag guys. For good measures I put in my new plugs I had just gotten and slipped into some vans before heading downstairs.
Alex and Jack both greeted me with smiling faces as I entered the main room.
"Morning Cora! Happy first day of school!" Jack excitedly got up to give me a hug.
"Morning dad, though I do not know why it should be a happy first day of school, what if I want it to suck?" I replied sarcastically before hugging back. I have never met anyone who wouldn't want to hug Jack.
"School is fun, you just gotta find the right crowd." Alex stated from his spot on the couch.
"Yeah! Like on the first day of school Alex was the new kid," jack lowered his voice to a whisper even though Alex could still hear, "and he was one hell of a loser."
"You weren't much better yourself!" Alex retorted defensively.
"Which is why you had fit right in." By now jack had walked back to couch and was making a cute little face at Alex.
"Ugh could you stop being so damn perfect?" He questioned jack before leaning in and kissing him. I felt like things were going to heat up and as much as I would love to see that, note the sarcasm, I had to get going.
"So... I'll be going now ...for school." I bit my tongue and backed out of the room quietly.
"Bye! Have fun!" They both shouted in unison before going back to their prior actions.
I grinned before grabbing my backpack and heading out of the door. Now if I remember right, the bus stop is just a short walk and the bus ride itself shouldn't be to bad either.
-
"New kid?" A high pitched voice sounded behind me as I searched for my locker.
"Uh yeah, I'm Cora." I replied, turning to face the voice. It belonged to a lanky looking guy, maybe a freshman, that had shaggy black hair, dark eyes, and a tan complexion.
"Cool name, I'm Arlo. Nice music taste by the way." He replied with a point to my backpack covered in scribbled song lyrics and doodles.
"Thanks, it's good to know someone else around here has a working brain." I joked.
"Haha yeah, so do you want help finding your locker and classes?"
"uhm sure, my locker is -" I paused while searching for the damn slip that had my code and number on it, "B-69"
He let out a chuckle when I said my locker.
"Wow, mature." I said sarcastically with a smile.
"Ah thank you, I do pride myself on maturity." Arlo replied with just as much sarcasm.
"ha ha."
"Alright, alright, follow me and I'll show you the way. Lucky for you it's right by mine."
-
I made it to first period, English, just on time. Arlo had showed me my locker and was even nice enough to hand me a little map he had personally made for new students. Heck, with out him I'd probably be running around like a mad man right now.
"Cora Gaskarth?" The teacher asked as I stood by her desk waiting to put in some random seat.
"That's me."
"Oh well hello, it's so good to get a new student, even if it's already a third through the school year."
"I guess?" I replied, getting a few snickers from the class.
"Well anyway, I believe there is an open seat by London, miss please raise your hand."
A girl with burgundy hair, and a 100% done look on her face raised her hand, eyeing me as if I were a mix between road kill and a diamond, which I must say thoroughly confused me. But I walked over anyway and quietly said hello before tuning into the lesson and 'taking notes' aka drawing sketches because I just really wasn't in the mood to take notes. The class ended quickly and I was on my way to my others, getting a similar 'introduction' before being placed by some random kid. Most acted the way London did but one kid was nice, too bad I forgot her name.
Before I knew it, it was 6th period and time for lunch.
I walked to the lunch room and literally bumped into Arlo, he turned around with an angry, almost menacing, expression but once he noticed it was me, his featured softens.
"Hey there Cora, how's the first day going?"
"Eh not bad I guess, I keep getting weird looks, comes with being new maybe?"
"Don't put up with them, tell 'em it pisses you off and if they don't stop then tell 'em it pisses me off ok?"
"uh sure." I gave a small smile, though I didn't really get why I should say it pisses him off but oh well.
"Good, well come on, I'm not letting you go 'lunch-buddie-less' on the first day your here."
-
From then on the day flew by, I got no more dirty looks, I guess Arlo was right. School ended at 3 and I took no time in getting my bags and heading on the bus. It was already half filled when I got on so I had to make my way to the back and sit in the last seat, which was no problem for me. The bus went quickly and finally I was home sweet home.
