Chapter 16 - The Crash and Burn

It's been a few months since Bruno was in New York. We try to talk as much as both our jobs would allow but it was becoming apparent that this long distant situation was beginning to put a strain on our relationship. Although we tried to talk almost every day the days became once a week and soon maybe every two weeks. And every time we tried to get together our job schedules were constantly conflicting. I yearned to be with him and I hoped he felt the same but we didn't discuss it for fear we would think the other was trying to break it off.

In an effort to try to be together Bruno called to tell me he was coming to Paris Fashion Week and we would spend as much time together as possible and then take a quiet vacation together the week after. I was more than excited for him to come. I told the girls I work with that he was coming and my closest friend Nika was the only positive one. The others were doubtful. "I can't wait til he gets here and you get some cause lately you been a real downer Che seriously!" Nika said laughing as we walked the venue for the Balmain Show placing seating tags on each one. "Pssh if he comes!" Terri said.  She apparently remembers the other times I've said he's coming and he was a no show due to a conflict. I rolled my eyes saying "He'll be here!" and if he doesn't..." I started until Nika cut me off.. "Don't!" She looked at me and giving me a reassuring look saying softly "He'll be here!" As she looked over at Terri and shaking her head. We went on putting the finishing touches on the venue.

The show went on without a glitch and we mingled backstage sipping champagne and talking with the team, models, staff and some celebrities that came to the show. While I started straightening up and helping the team hang clothes and I happened to glance in the direction of a crowd starting to gather around someone including a couple of media people and a couple of models. I guess it's one of the major celebrities like a Kardashian or someone. I continued with my focus on packing up stuff when I looked again right as someone moved and I could see who they were all talking to or trying to talk to. And my eyes were met with the most handsome smile along with a wink and a raise of a champagne glass toward me. My heart skipped a beat as I saw him standing there dressed in all black. Nika came by me complaining about something as she noticed the direction of my stare. She being Nika said "Well I'll be damned! That is one fine piece of caramel man candy!" I nudged her with my elbow when she continued with "Shit, no wonder you fuckin in restaurant bathrooms, I'd do his fine ass!" I shook my head and handed her the hangers of clothes I had and said "Fall back bitch! He's mine!" We both giggled. I walked toward him as he excused himself from the media and the model that had her arm linked with his and walked toward me. My jealous fangs almost came out one at a time until he smiled and touched my back saying "Hey baby!" and kissed my lips in front of everyone. The model just watched in envy. I hugged him and whispered to his ear, "I'm so glad you made it!" He said "I would not have missed being so close and not see you!" I was so happy and couldn't wait to get outta here. I told him I'd be done in a few and he was so sweet he mingled around a little then went outside to smoke and wait for me to come out.

We finally finished and had our final team meeting with our boss. We were done with this Paris Fashion week and free to do our own thing. Most were staying for a few more days and others were heading back to the states. I was excited because Bruno promised a week of his time and we were going to the South of France for a quiet mini beach vacation. We all got outside and the girls couldn't wait to say Hi to him and he was so sweet. They took photos and we all talked. When My boss came out, I introduced her him. "Kelly this is...." she cut me off saying "Bruno Mars... I've seen your shows! Nice to meet you!" I smile saying "Bruno and I are heading to Saint-Tropez for a few days!" Then he looked at me saying "Well babe, about that...." I looked at him. "What?" Then he said "We'll talk about it later. It was nice meeting you Kelly! I'll make sure she gets back to New York safely! Ladies!" And I hugged my girls, Nika saying "Have fun babe" and I over heard Terri saying "I bet that trip is off just like the rest". I just walked away but her words stuck in my head.
