It's been two weeks since our 'fun' night at the haunted house took a deadly turn. Needless to say, Jeremy knows about vampires now. Both him and Elena went through the same thing I did. According to Stefan, it was all planned. Some sick vampires decided to create their own fun and compelled the workers to leave their shift at the tunnels while they took over. All in all, about twenty innocent people were killed.

Ever since that night, I have begun to look at Damon in a new way. I can't explain it, but I figure he has been through a lot in his lifetime. It's not an excuse for everything he has done, but it has brought me to muster up some sympathy for him. Not a lot, but enough that I could begin to tolerate him. After all, he did save my life for the second time within about a week.

There was something that was constantly on my mind. Why? Why does he bother? According to Stefan and Elena, he's this horrible person who doesn't feel and doesn't care. If that were true, why would he help save my life? The answer is simple; he wouldn't. Sure, I was curious about it. Who wouldn't be? Still, something held me back.

After all, curiosity killed the cat.

Mr. Saltzman was proving to be a great teacher so far. His teaching skills were great and he had a friendly attitude toward his students. He even seemed to have a little thing for Jenna, and I couldn't be happier. Alright, it's a little bit weird, but I will get used to it!

"Veena...?"

I snapped out of my trance and cleared my throat. "Yes, Mr. Saltzman?" I asked politely, straightening my back. A few kids in the class chuckled, but with one quick glare shot in their direction, they were silenced.

"What year did the Civil War start?"

"1861." I replied immediately, crossing my arms over my chest as I sat back in my chair.

"Vietnam War?"

"1959."

"Korean War?"

"1950."

"The Cold War?"

"1945."

"And when did it end?"

"1989."

Mr. Saltzman nodded in satisfaction, holding quite the impressed look on his face. "Welcome to my class, Veena."

"Thank you Mr. Saltzman." I replied in my most sincere voice as he turned back to the chalkboard.

I turned my head back to the jackasses who had previously been laughing. All four boys held a look of surprise on their faces, to which I gave them a sarcastic smile, sending a very pretty middle finger their way. They just kept staring, two of them putting a 'not bad' sort of look on their faces at my reaction.

"Veena, don't be rude..." Elena warned under her breath from the seat beside me.

"Why shouldn't I be? Those assholes deserved it." I muttered back in a low tone. She rolled her eyes, whilst smirking at the same time, and continued taking notes.

Precisely twenty four minutes later, the sharp ringing of the school bell echoed through the classroom. Elena and I gathered our things, followed by Caroline and Bonnie who had been seated behind us for the entirety of the class period.

"That was badass!" Caroline exclaimed as soon as we stepped through the doorway of the classroom. "Did you see the look on their faces? Man!"

I gave a good laugh and spun the dial on the metal surface of my locker. With an upward pull on the latch, the small door swung open. I shoved my things into the locker, seeing as it was the end of the day.
