I spend the next four days with an extemely unusual life. I did the usual things like going to class, eating frozen yogurt, and working on a report. There was only one thing different. Wherever I went people stared, and I even had a reporter from Places Magazine try to interview me. They wanted to do a cover article on our story. I declined the invitation to do an interview. They still did an article, but it was only put in the left hand corner of the cover. On Tuesday I got a call from Wesley.
Wesley and I went way back. Way back into lots of secrets, lies, and mysteries. Our past was heavily involved, and we hadn't taked since my mother died and I left my home in Wisconsin. I let the phone ring four times before answering.
"Hello," I say with a slight edge in my voice.
"Georgianna Grace," the voice says with a ring to it.
"Westley," I say in a shallow whisper.
"Right-o, Georgianna or shall I say Emma, I read about you and your fancy boyfriend in the newspaper."
"Oh, and what condesending things do you have to say about me?"
"The usual fact that dating him was a stupid move, and that there is trouble back in Wisconsin."
"What type of trouble?"
"The type of trouble we cannot speak about on the phone," he says with a laugh "Get a plane ticket and come to Porton."
I have stayed out of Porton, because people were getting upset at me. Upset people try to look for things to get you in trouble for, and the goverment was not so fond of me going there either.
Later that day I get on my computer and order a plane ticket in four days time to Madison, Wisconsin and decide to rent a car to bring me to Porton. After ordering a ticket I shut off the computer and went to bed.
When I wake up I realize what class I have today. Political Science. Political Science is the only class I have with Daniel, and I have been dreading it for days. Instead of skipping the class I manage to get the guts to get out of bed and grab make some cereal. My roomate Ella wakes up about five minutes after me and spends like fifteen minutes telling me all of the juicy gossip on Daniel and I. It turns out everybody is looking forward to seeing Daniel and I in an enclosed enviroment. I lke Ella. She is a bit of a ditz, but it makes everything more fun. If my life were a movie she would be the comic relief in the story. Ella is the daughter of a wealthy buisnessman and a model. The model shines very much through her.
After breakfast I walk to class with Ella, and she chit chats the entire way.
"OMG did you hear that Milta threw up at some concert last week."
"And I was like no I did not, and she got all up in my face."
Honestly I never really paid that much attention to the gossip, because there was way too much. Although I think everybody enjoys a little bit of juicy rumors in their life. When I was a teenager in Wisconsin I always touched up on the rumors, and was a bit of a gossip. I was a lot different before my mother died. It is not that I didn't care for people anymore I just had a more practical outlook on life.
When Ella and I arrive at class the girls in the room immediately noice my appearance. I quickly glane around the room and notice Daniel is not in attendance. I wonder if he would actually go that far out of this way to avoid me over a silly breakup. When the proffessor Mr.Jelmin starts to speak I have established the fact that Daniel will not be in attendance, but five minutes into class somebody walks into the room.
Daniel.
He slides into the seat and I try not to look in his direction, because I do not need the drama at the moment. Every kid in the room is most certaintly trying to figure out our relationship, and are not paying attention to Mr.Jelmin. Mr. Jelmin seems to be getting annoyed and clears his throat and says "I know that Miss Smith and Mr.Newman's little scandal is very interesting, but can you please pay attention to me". Another teacher who treats us like high schoolers. Now that I think about it the students here do act a lot like kids in high school. Oh well.
When the bell rings I rush out as soon as possible keeping my head down and trying not to run. When I am in the hallway somebody catches my arm and begins to speak "Ella, I know this may sound odd, but can we be friends". That voice. I know that voice, although I haven't spoken to it in weeks.
"Daniel?"
"Yeah," he says ruffling his hair "I miss you, and mabey the whole relationship thing will not work out, but we can still hang out."
"Okay, but I have to leave in a few days."
"Leave, for what?"
"Oh, I going into Wisconsin to look into selling my mother's house," I lie.
I spend the next couple of days hanging out with Daniel and packing to go back to Porton, Wisconsin. Somebody takes a picture of Daniel and I hanging out together and sends in to Places Magazine. We get another article. On the day that I am going to leave I see an announcement on T.V. for a new reality show that will be airing soon. Apparently, the security is real tight, and nobody knows the subject of the show. Maybe this mysterious show will take away from the publicity about Daniel and I. Daniel never talks about our relationship or the engagement that never happened. We just act like really good friends. Right before I am about to go to the airport Daniel asks to use my phone.
He is entering a phone number when my Iphone starts to ring. "Who is Westley, because he is calling," he says handing me back the phone. I quickly answer and tell Wess that I have to go.
"So, who is Westley," he asks with suspision.
"My brother," I say with a faltering voice.
"You said you were an only child."
"We aren't blood related."
"Why did you never tell me?"
"Just forget it."
