Picture Perfect

Maria stared at the door anxiety washing over her while she watched her sister enter the home. "Hello Savannah." Maria mumbled. The blonde stared her down, her piercing green eyes meeting Maria's.

Fear.

Fear was all she could feel. Fear was all she had known. Savannah stepped forward slightly keeping her angry gaze on the red head like a lion stalking its prey. Maria stood there in fear expecting Savannah to lash out. Her sister took another step closer to the red head, Maria couldn't help but flinch in fear she held her arms out and closed her eyes waiting for the collision to come.

But it didn't.

Maria slowly opened her eyes to see Savannah standing before her, a flash of sadness filled her eyes as she looked towards the picture hanging on the wall. She appeared to be in a daze as she outstretched her hands and removed the photo from the wall. Maria observed the scene before her seeing her sister in such a vulnerable state, Maria reached out and lightly touched Savannah's arm attempting to comfort the blonde. Almost like a flick of a switch Savannah's vulnerability disappeared as she threw the photo against the wall shattering the frame.She pushed past Maria entering her room slamming the door shut and shaking the house.

    Maria kneeled over the broken glass gently picking up the photo, it showed a beautiful red head with bright blue eyes she was building a sand castle with a little blonde girl. While a tall brunette male with bright green eyes filled with love sat next to her, a smile imprinted on his face. A tear fell from her eye as she saw the face of her mother a face she never was able to see, a voice she was never able to hear. Her father had disappeared not long after. The girl wiped the tears from her eyes and slowly stood cleaning the glass from the floor. She entered her room and locked up tight. Sleep overcame the red head as she dreamed of her mother longing to hear the sound of her voice telling her it would be okay, Longing to have someone who loved her.
