The Van

I ran down after Bailey and followed her across the street. I trailed close behind her just for safety. She might be small but she can pack a punch. When we got to Mrs. O'Neil's house Bailey walked around the van while I peered into the windows.

"Damn, I can't see anything."

Bailey just kept walking around, looking for something.

"Let's go ask Mrs. O'Neil if she knows whose van it is. If it's in her driveway, she must know something about it."

We walked over to her front door and knocked. A young woman, maybe in her late 20's answered. I immediately recognized her as my English teacher.

"Zoey, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Well, Mrs. Swain I just saw that black van out there in the driveway and was wondering if you know whose it is."

She looked bewildered and said "What van?"

Bailey spoke up "We were wondering if you could tell us. And just one question, do you live here?"

"No this is my first time hearing about a van. And this is my mother's house. She's been feling ill lately and I decided to come up for spring break. "

"Mrs. Swain, can we talk to your mother? Or maybe you can her ask about the van." I was starting to sweat. I sweat when I'm nervous, don't judge me.

"Ok girls, one second." she walked into the house and I heard her yell "MOTHER! THESE TWO GIRLS SAY THERE'S A BLACK VAN OUTSIDE, DO YOU KNOW WHOSE IT IS?" Jeez, she's got a set of lungs on her. And, like in the SpongeBob Chocolate bars episode, we hear Mrs. O'Neil yell in an old lady voice " What? WHAT DID YOU SAY?" "CHOCOLATE, THE BOYS ARE SELLING CHOCOLATE" no, Mrs Swain DIDN'T yell the chocolate bit. It would've been FUNNY AS FUCK if she did though. Instead she just yelled the van question again.

"Oh yes, the van. I have seen that out there for months. The man who owns it comes and visits me every night. "

Looking puzzled she said " Mom, we haven't had visitors all this week." She came out and said

"Look girls, she's got Alzheimer's she doesn't know what she's taking about."

We heard Mrs. O'Neil mumbling to herself and said goodbye to Mrs. Swain.

"What the fuck.....'

"I don't know."

We ran back to Bailey's room and locked the door. "What do you think she meant, that she didn't see it?" I asked.

"Who knows?" Bailey got out her laptop as I heard my phone buzzing.

"6 NEW MESSAGES"

Who the fuck would be texting meow, I was gone for 10 minutes. Bailey called me over to her queen sized colorful bed. She showed me the screen.

"Oh, My, God!"
