“Whoa,” I said aloud. “I never knew that Jenkins was so well known and credited.”
Aaron looked up at me, with big eyes. My heart almost jumped through my chest. “Yes, I met him on a tour we did. He was a special guest.”
“Speaking of your band,” Galena commented. “Is Rupert seeing anyone?”
Aaron raised his eyebrow, almost looking hurt. “I don’t think so. Why? Do you like Rupert?”
Galena blushed. My other sisters looked astonished.
“You like Rupert?” I heard Safire whisper to Galena as I swooped down to be nearer to them. “I thought you loved Aaron. You know Father doesn’t approve of Rupert!”
I shot Galena a smile and flew over them to remain next to Aaron.
Aaron smiled when he saw me. “Hello, my majesty.” He licked his lip and grinned.
I sighed. What in the name of wise folk was I doing? Instead of saying of what I wanted to say, I dumbly asked, “So, when will we reach Raven Town?”
His smile faded. “About two minutes. Is that all you wanted to say?”
No. No. No. No. No. I have something really important to tell you. “Yes, that was all,” were the words that came out of my mouth.
I was about to leave when he grabbed my wrist. I looked over at my sisters who were busy fussing over Galena’s new fondness of Rupert. I then glanced back at Aaron, whose eyes were big and blue. They shined like the moon.
Aaron kissed my hand, politely, his eyes never wandering away from mine. “Dear Ericka, I am sorry for being rude to you in the beginning of this whole journey. Will you accept my apology?”
I nodded, “Indeed, Aaron Delgado. Also, forgive me for my anger towards you. Especially those winds that I had thrown at you.”
“No need, my princess,” he was beaming. “Those were amazing.”
I smiled to show that I understood. “Have you not seen magic before? It was rumored that you have a wonderful ability far greater than anyone in the kingdom.”
Aaron nodded. “Ah, but I am much like you yourself. I have not managed to control my power yet. I still am learning.”
I didn’t know what else to say. Thankfully, I didn’t have to.
In the near distance, I could see a large outer wall made of mud bricks and stone. I could see a few guards standing by the large entrance and signs placed all around it. My heart skipped a beat. This was where King Ward was born. This was where the evil began. I shivered just thinking about it.
“Our tutor states that the outer wall of Raven Town is fifty miles in perimeter. Is this true?” Aqua said it like she was reciting an ancient writing for our tutor.
Aaron shrugged, his eyes locked on the guards. “I haven’t measured it. I don’t know if those guards will let us inside the town.”
I laughed. Guards wouldn’t let us into a mere town? Please, we were the princesses of Donstania. “We can handle that. Sisters, gather your crowns.”
Within seconds, our horses stopped in front of two men standing by the right side of the entrance. The first man was rather tall and bulky. His shoulders were stiff and his hands clutched a spear tightly. He wore an army tunic under a bronze breastplate and armor. The man’s face was just as serious and tough as his body. He wore a stern expression and his lips were firmly shut. His eyes were small and seemed to be daydreaming. His eyebrows were knit together and his mouth was open ajar. The man’s hair was hidden under his helmet but his messy beard was displayed.
