Her right foot tapped against the marble floor as she waited in line to pay for the chocolates she'd bought for no reason.
Actually, there was a reason why she bought those diabetes. Her sister Sage is on her period and she was sent to the store to buy dozens of chocolates and Oreos and she agreed because she had to buy a new paintbrush and her sister would end up dramatically whining how she'd die of cramps.
She never minded though as long as she was given 50 dollars for her talent fee and a half dozen of those chocolates, her sister was hesitant but it was a non arguable price. It's already past 10 pm and there's still two people ahead of her in line, she doesn't mind waiting but she kept on checking on her phone to see the time.
Halsey's Hurricane started playing in the store, Sydney sang along and smirked to herself because she suddenly had gotten a 'grunge vibe'. It was her turn on the counter and as she laid the chocolates and the paintbrush on the conveyor belt, the cashier girl looked at her rudely.
The cashier looked over at Sydney, signaling her to look at the screen that displayed the overall cost of her item, she rolled her eyes at the rudeness of the cashier and pulled out the money from her wallet.
After she got out, she tried waiting for a cab but there weren't any buses or cars around, so, she had no choice but to walk until something comes by. She stopped at the gas station to relax. She's only walked a few meters but she was already tired, or maybe she was just too lazy. It was quite cold and she only had a baby pink cropped hoodie and jeans on. (a/n: full outfit above, appreciate the outfit bc for some reason i spent a whole 30 mins doing that on polyvore)
She threw her thick, brown hair in a bun and bit her lip in concentration as she dug into the brown paper bag. She took an Oreo and checked her phone to see if someone had texted her, she scoffed at the idea because it she thought it was stupid and because no one really, ever texted her.
"You dropped your wallet." A tall boy holding up a wallet the same color of her hoodie, walked up to her.
"That's not mine." Her eyebrows knitted together as she stared at the wallet, she doesn't have the best vision and the place was badly lit.
"Oh," The boy had a puzzled look on his face. "I just figured-"
"I get it," Sydney giggled. "Well, not all girls match their hoodies with their wallets."
"No. You were the person I saw first." He said, his tone stern and Sydney looked around but there was no single soul around besides her and boy.
"Oh, sorry."
"You don't need to apologize, I'm used to encountering girls that are too conceited than they should be." He chuckled, eyeing the girl from head to toe, he thought she was kinda hot.
Sydney rolled her eyes and lightly laughed. "Easy there, tiger. I'm also used to boys who dress in flannels, ripped jeans and gold faux teeth," She smirked, because she thought to herself that she was going in for the kill. "There's a term for that though, but I can't seem to point it out, wait there it is, asshole."
She might look like she had kept her chill but deep inside she was congratulating herself, applauding, and jumping altogether because if you actually knew Sydney, you'd be shocked that she even had a tongue around strangers.
"Really?" He snickered, seemingly not too impressed at her witty remark. "Gold teeth?"
She moved in closer to him to see if he did had gold teeth. "I thought you had gold teeth, maybe it was just the lights. Though if you look at it from afar it does look like gold teeth, or maybe you just have really yellow teeth."
"Quite the chatty one, eh?" He raised a brow, rather impressed at how much this girl could talk all day.
"Nah. Now that I think of it, this conversation ends here because you're a stranger and I'm not supposed to talk to one, okay. Bye." She wrinkled her nose and flashed a fake smile then returned her focus on the screen of her phone. She wasn't being childish or a brat. In all honesty, she just thought their banter was rather useless and awkward.
"What are you twelve?" He scoffed, but this didn't seem to interest Sydney, and there's nothing else he hates more than being ignored. Noticing the amount of times she checked her phone, he thought that the girl was dying to get home. "Do you need a ride?"
Sydney couldn't help but look at the boy. He was attractive, and his dirty blonde hair beautifully messy, he was wearing a red flannel, denim jacket and black ripped jeans. She shook her head and looked back at her phone. "Never accept rides from strangers." Was her reply but in reality, she was desperate to go home.
She accidentally knocked the brown paper bag causing the items to fall out. She hurriedly tidied it up, feeling uneasy because of the boy's stare. "When will you go away?"
"You paint?"
"Yeah."
"Let's get out of here, then."
"Me? With you? Not happening." She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms on her chest.
"C'mon. I'll give you a ride home." Normally, he only gave rides to girls after he had slept with then, but right now his intentions were clear and he was just sympathetic of this helpless, gorgeous girl.
"Make up your mind now or I'll be throwing you in the back of my truck."
She suddenly realized that he was one of those people who wouldn't take no for an answer and that he'd continue nagging her, besides she badly needed a ride and this boy looked decent enough.
"Do I have a choice?" She sighed.
"No." He bit his lip in amusement.
She was gonna climb up to his truck but something stopped her in her tracks. "Wait, I hadn't got your name yet."
"Luke."
"Sydney."
