The Doctor

- Ivan's POV -

"Before I go, I need you to explain something, Braginsky,"

"Whatever you want to know, comrade,"

"Don't call me that," Yao glared before continuing, "We investigated one of your ghouls that were captured and he mentioned some interesting information,"

"Is that so? What about?"

"Who is Vash Zwingli and his sister?"

"Oh. That..."

"'Genetically engineered ghouls', he said. I would like to know more. Don't worry, our deal won't allow me to tell anyone about the Kol Klan to the CCG..."

"Alright. Vash was a doctor and scientist from Switzerland. He specialized in Ghoul biology though so he came here with his sister to the CCG. One night, I saw her..."

- 10 YEARS AGO -

"What do you mean Natalia is gone?!"

"We went out..."

"Ivan! You know that is forbidden for obvious reasons! What happened?!"

Tears rolled down my eyes as Katyusha scolded me. Even for being 17, I was still a major crybaby.

"Natalia wanted to go out and she convinced me. I wasn't keeping watch of her, it was my fault! She ran off and got out of my sight. I A Dove came and saw her and took her away. "

I closed my eyes, not wanting to see Katyusha's face.

"Ivan, it will be alright. I will not let anyone hurt you or your sister. But now, I need to know where that disgusting human went off to. OK?"

After that, Katyusha and I, along with some other ghouls tried to follow the way I saw the Dove took Natalia. After some time, I saw the man and we followed him. He walked out from a building that seemed empty.

"Natalia is in there. Let's get her out," Katyusha ordered. She looked back towards the other ghouls, "And do not hesitate to kill anyone if they threaten us. No one hurts my family,"

We entered through windows and all the lights were off. There was no one in sight. We searched and called out for Natalia. Suddenly, we heard the man come back inside and we all were hiding in different rooms. Katyusha and I were in a room that looked like a hospital room. I kept watch while she looked for an exit. I peeked out the door and suddenly, there was a scream.

I closed the door and locked it in case the man heard and quickly ran to the source of the scream. I saw Katyusha breaking a closed cell room and let Natalia out. She quickly picked her up and started running, "Ivan, let's go!".

As I turned to follow her, I got curious to what happened to the girl who screamed. I turned back to the front of the cell and saw a young girl who was stabbed and bleeding to death. She was about seven years old and her eyes were being drained of life. I guessed that Katyusha thought she was a threat and attacked her. The wound in her stomach was big; there was no way she was going to survive this. Her blond braid was tainted with the pool of blood that was spreading every second. I tried to step away but she heard me and tried to talk but choked on blood, "Big B-bruder?...". I knew that she was human and I should just leave before I get caught. Instead of running away with Katyusha, I tried to pick the girl up and set her on the operating table.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HER!" I froze as I felt a gun pointed to my head. I slowly turned around to face the man who I saw take Natalia. He looked back at me with anger and I could see his hands were shaking. I slowly moved out of the way to let him get to the girl. He gasped when he saw her and quickly ran to her side, still not letting his guard down, "Lily?! Lily! Oh no... What happened?! Are you still awake? Are you still... Still alive? Lily, stay with me!"
