I was only unconcious for a couple of minutes, but I woke up with so many questions.
"Wait, how did these weird glowy, moving tattoo thingies get on my arms?" I asked the prince, who was now sitting in a chair to the right of my hospital bed.
"Well I can honestly say that I have absolutely no idea."
"You're helpful" I muttered.
"What I do know is that you obviously aren't normal."
"Thanks" I said sarcastically.
"No offense was intended your highness." He was so annoyingly polite.
"Whatever, can you like wash them off, of remove them somehow?" I asked.
"We'll try, but I can't promise anything."
"Okay, but will you help me up, I have to get back to my room." Ale- Prince Alexander walked over to me and helped me to my feet.
I didn't realise that my legs were so unstable until I stood up. I fell over, right on top of the prince might I add. I quickly got off of him, and attempted to stand up. I made better progress this time, and Alexander helped me up.
"Sorry for, uh falling on you, I guess." I said, I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks.
Alexander nodded, and helped me to the infirmary door. I turned the handle with my tattooed arm, and then walked outside.
~~~~~~~~
"Oh my God, Elizabeth what happened?"
"We were so worried!"
"Yeah, I guess we were a little worried."
"Oh, thank you." I tried to sound sincere, but I was so tired.
Isabelle, Amelia, and Jennifer continued to fuss over me. Inspecting each strange mark on my arm, and pointing out even the smallest scratch on my body.
"So what are these weird tattoo thingies?" Amelia inquired.
"Well, you see, I'm not really sure..."
"But you have to know I mean it's on your arms." Wow she was persistant.
"Okay. All I know is that I was pushed down, I hit my head, and I woke up with these things on my arms." Amelia nodded, but I don't think that she believed me.
I sighed and jumped onto my bed to go to sleep. The infirmary bed had been so uncomfortable, and my bed felt like a cloud. I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew...
"WAKE UP ELIZABETH! THE NEXT ELIMINATION CEREMONY IS STARTING IN TEN MINUTES!"
I'm pretty sure that it was jennifer who yelled, but I didn't have time to process anything because all three of them dragged me out of bed (literally) and shoved me into a dress. My makeup was done in about two seconds and my hair was put in a loose braid.
My dress was really simple. It was pink, long sleeved, (to cover my arms) and above-the knee and it kind of made me look really pale. But apparently I only had five minutes to get to the elimination ceremony, so looks weren't all that important.
After they were done getting me ready, the girls pushed me out the door, and dragged me to the gate at the entrance to the ceremony stage. I looked around and found Michael standing just to my right.
"Sorry, am I late?" I asked.
Michael turned to me, and he looked relieved. "We were afraid you weren't going to show up. Some people even thought that they had sent you home because of the...well you know." He gestured to my arms, that were covered by my dress's sleeves.
"Oh, yeah. Did everyone see them on the television?" I really hadn't thought about it earlier, but know I was freaking out just a little bit.
"No they just saw you fall, and then the prince made them turn the cameras off." I felt a huge weight elevate from my shoulders. "Now go! You're the last one to get here!"
"Oh, yes of course." I walked up to the gate, and a guard announced my arrival. I stepped onto the stage as elegantly as I could, but I still felt awkward and embarrassed.
A few other princesses shot me nasty looks as I found my place in the line of girls. I stood there avoiding their looks, and clasping my hands tightly together. I was scared that I would let my sister down if I was eliminated, but I wasn't so sure that I would be staying.
The man who had announced last week's eliminated girls made another appearence, and he stepped up to the microphone slowly.
"Greetings citizens of Mortalius!" He said. There were cheers from the crowd. "Today I am, so sad that I will be sharing the two princesses who will be eliminated. But I am also very honored that I get to usher in the next stage of The Choosing!" There were more cheers from the crowd, and the announcer was handed the envelope with two names in it.
"Today the two princesess who will be leaving us are....Myrtle Berkleson and Miranda Alvan!" He boomed. There were many cheers, but some boos were mixed in with them.
I sighed and clapped along with the other girls.
I was safe.
At least for today.
