Esme's POV

All that I could feel was the numbness.

No pain,

No emotion,

No feeling.

Nothing.

My thoughts, erased as I struggle to remember what had happened and what on earth was going on. My vision improves slightly showing the remains of what looks like a building rushing towards me, I duck rapidly and notice suddenly I am underwater, it's a maroony colour from all of the dirt and the blood of the innocent lives it has taken. I make my way to he surface, gasping for air, spluttering and trying my hardest to shout for help. I can see a tree in the distance, I have no control whatsoever over my body, I am being pushed into different directions passing bodies of people that probably had no idea of what was to come. I feel choked, a mass of weight being put around my neck, I tug at the leather feel and quickly pulling it over my head, my purse. The tree in sight seems to be getting closer and closer. When close enough I cling on as if my life depended on it and carefully evaluate my situation.

I can hear peoples cries for help and knowing that I can't do anything to help them breaks my heart, I've always wanted to be a doctor because of the person I am, always wanting to help and when I can't I feel disappointed. and though I cannot do anything in this situation ,I still can't help but feel like I have let down another being.

All feeling on my left leg had gone, I'm not sure if it's still there, and there's a throbbing pain in the centre of my chest as well as my head.

I see a car floating, the sounds of a child crying helplessly inside lures me to it. I have one arm around the tree and stretch my other towards the car, I'm able to grab onto the open window and safely bring myself to let go of the tree. I notice that in the direction of the wave it's taking us to more higher ground meaning it is getting shallower.

I keep looking around for anyone or anything that looks familiar. I can see a head of bright blond hair, a small fragile looking body face down in the water.

"Ethan!" I scream as years brew in my eyes, I need to get to him. "Ethan!" I let to of the car and swim on his direction, the power of the wave is pushing me in the opposite direction but he is coming towards me. His weak body falls into my arms and I hug onto his limp body. I hold his head in my arms, kicking my legs frantically to keep the both of us above water. "I look at his face, the right side of his face without skin. This isn't Ethan. I turn the child's face to the side looking for a birth mark I know Ethan has.

This isn't Ethan.

Do I leave the body? I feel for the pulse in the neck, it's very faint but it's still there. He's holding on.

I swing him over my shoulder .

The water seems to have calmed down after I had found a log floating around, I put the child beside me holding onto his arm and kicking my legs fiercely trying to move before another wave hits.

The only thing I could remember was being thrown around like a doll under the water and thinking that this was the end.
