When he noticed that I was staring back at him he looked away instantly.
“Peeta, does he look familiar to you?” I was instantly curious with this man.
“Who?” I pointed to the man’s direction with wary. People might think I’m now calculating a plan or who to take down first. “Him? He’s Cato from District 2. I heard he is the leader of the Career Pack. He may be the most dangerous threat to us.”
“Remember, heads high and SMILE!” Cinna reminded from my left though I barely took it to mind because I was still too fascinated by the golden boy.
The last thing I saw was him when we entered the city. I heard a shouts of “District 12!” but I was stunned. All I could see was colors. It was all so blinding. Cheers and encouragements came from all around me.
The ride took 20 minutes until we reached the City Circle. By then my ears were ringing. There we were welcomed then escorted to the Training Center which will be our “home” until the games begin.
The Training center was built exclusively for the tributes and their team. Each district owns a floor.. easy enough.
It appears that Haymitch and Effie’s responsibilities was also to baby sit us.
By night I was still too restless to sleep and a lot was on my mind. I decided to go down the Training Center’s upper ground. That is where we will train, practice and show off to get sponsors. I decided to check it out. And maybe use some of its equipment.
I got hold of the bow and arrow and was pointing it directly in the middle of the target when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I gasped.
“Don’t.” The stranger demanded. No. I can’t die like this.. without a fight. I’m sure this stranger behind me is one of the tributes. But who particularly?
“Who are you? If you intend to kill me now-.”
“No worries. I don’t intend to. Atleast not right now.” When his hold got lighter I turned around and backed away.. only to be surprised.
Well if it wasn’t golden boy.
“What’re you doing here?” I asked.
“I should be asking the same thing.”
“You know you shouldn’t be fraternizing with the enemy.”
“So this is fraternizing?”
“NO!”
“Well you said so. I think this is more like flirting.”
“You think I don’t know what this is all about. This is some kind of scheme to eliminate me as earlier as possible because you know I’ll definitely be a big threat to you. Well you thought right.”
“Who said anything about that? I was here to train but then I saw you using the bow and arrow all wrong.” A horrified gasp came out of me.
“Better than you! Just don’t mind-.” Before I could finish he wrapped his arms around me and our faces were only inches away.
“How about I teach you the right way.” He turned me around and positioned the bow and arrow.
“Why? You shouldn’t be helping me. We’re supposed to be competing and fighting.”
“We are. But then I’d hate for you to embarrass yourself in front of the Capitol’s people.”
“Why do you even care? I mean we’re not from the same district it’s not your duty to train me. I’ve got my own and I can practice by myself, thank you. Besides I know my around an bow and arrow I’ve been using them since I was a child.”
“You always talk this much?” I could hear the annoyance in his tone.
To be honest I don’t. I’m not a chatty person but his presence makes me nervous and unsettled but hell would freeze before I’d tell him that.
