You clutched the little wrapped box to your chest as you unlocked the front door of yours and Connor's house.
"Babe?"
The house was silent even though you were sure he was back from practice already. You looked around the ground floor but couldn't find him so you climbed the stairs to your upper floor, your present still in hand.
"Connor? You up here?"
You looked into every room but didn't find him either. You were about to give up and start making dinner when you saw his training bag thrown into a corner of the room. He had to be home. You went downstairs again and decided to go down to your basement gym, maybe he was there.
"Babe?"
You found Connor beating a boxing bag. Standing in the doorway you watched him, you loved the way his muscles moved. While you were staring he stopped punching the bag and instead rested his forehead against the bag.
"Connor?"
He turned around startled before spotting you.
"I can't play anymore. I completely messed up at practice. I'm just... I can't play."
A few days ago Connor had broken the gold chain he always wore. Since then his concentration was off and so was his play. He blamed the broken chain. Today you wanted to surprise him. You had secretly gotten it fixed and now you wanted to give it to him.
"Connor, you are an amazing player. Don't ever doubt that, please. Your skills don't depend on a stupid chain."
You hugged him close before pushing him away slightly.
"I know. I just... call it superstition or something but my game just sucks."
You remember the little wrapped box you still held so you gave it to him.
"I got you a little something."
He looked at you questioning before slowly unwrapping it. When he saw the chain he slowly took it out.
"I got it fixed for you. And I also got a little thing for myself."
You carefully took off your scarf to show him the matching necklace you wore. Connor looked at you for a moment before sliding his arm around your waist, pulling you close and kissed you.
