He was there.

Stiles could feel him lingering in the back of his mind waiting for the perfect moment to step out and take control. He refused to tell anyone that the nogitsune was still here with them, everything was perfect. Oliver and him have got much closer than they originally were, Emma is finally happy with Cisco, and his dad is home with his family. There's no way he could ruin all of that.

At night, he had nightmares; nightmares about killing his family. Stiles gets maybe four hours of sleep per night. He stole his sister's powdered foundation to cover up the dark circles under his eyes so that no one would be suspicious.

But little did he know, Emma knew about it all. She was much smarter than she looks and it's her brother, of course she would notice if something was off. At one point, she ended up setting an alarm at midnight and would sit next to Stiles' door to make sure he was okay. Often, she would hear him crying which resulted in him also crying himself to sleep. She felt bad and the blonde would begin to wonder if it was her fault. "What if it's because I had him come home instead of going into a cell?" she would often ask herself or Cisco and he would always reply with the same thing, "You didn't want him to suffer alone". He was right as always but she felt something deeper than that. What if it was really because she was being selfish and didn't want to be alone anymore? It scared her that, that might actually be the reason why. Emma, though, didn't show any of this to him. She never spoke of it knowing Stiles would feel bad and he didn't need that right now so she kept to herself and acted happy.

It was midnight, Emma had just turned off her alarm on her phone and Cisco slept soundly next to her. He slept through every alarm. Slowly, she brought her legs over the edge of her bed and slid out. She shivered slightly, the air was cold and she was in shorts so that didn't make it any better. Emma stood, wrapping her arms around herself and she tiptoed to the door, opening it and stepping out. Already, she could hear the sobs come from his room and her heart dropped a little. It killed her hearing her brother cry so hard. Even when he broke his arm when he was seven, he cried just a little. Only once did she hear him cry this hard and that was when their mother died.

The blonde sat down next to his door in her usual spot and sat in silence listening to his sobs. Tears brimmed her eyes and she bit her lip to keep herself from crying. Tonight, he was whispering to himself and she strained to hear what he was saying. She caught some words like "all" and "fault" and just like that, it dawned on her. He was blaming himself for something. Maybe it was for stabbing Iris, maybe it was for killing Linda but either way, it wasn't him who did it. It was the dark spirit.

After a while, the sobbing came to a stop, soft snores escaped his lips and she smiled. He was finally asleep, he was finally at peace.

"Emma?" her head snapped to the side, seeing her boyfriend come into view.

"Cisco, I was um just coming to bed. I just wanted to-"

He chuckled, "It's okay. I know what you were doing. You were making sure he was okay." she nodded and he took a seat next her and instantly her head was on his shoulder. "I can hear him crying from your room. It wakes me up but so does your alarm."

"Sorry, I just don't want the nogitsune doing anything to him. Or anyone for that matter."

"I understand."

"Cisco, I'm scared."

"I am too, Em, I am too." his hold on her tightened, her eyes drooping from her being so tired. It must have been 3 am by now.

Emma cleared her throat, lifting her head up from her boyfriends shoulder and asked, "Do you think the nogitsune will ever leave us alone?"

"At this point, I don't know."
